Connection is where change begins. Before a child can learn, behave, or regulate—they need to feel safe and seen.
Connection isn’t a soft skill. It’s the foundation of growth, trust, and cooperation.

When we slow down, get curious, and truly connect… everything else starts to fall into place. Because behavior is shaped by relationship, not control.

Teens are listening—even when you think they’re not.
Cursing might seem like ‘just words,’ but how we speak teaches our kids how to respond to the world.
If we want teens to communicate with respect, self-awareness, and confidence... we have to model it first.

Your words set the tone. Their words follow.

New Video Available! Discipline isn’t about control—it’s about connection. 💛
The 4 C’s of Positive Discipline give us a framework to raise respectful, resilient, and emotionally strong kids:

✨ Connection – Build trust and relationship first
🗣️ Communication – Speak with respect and clarity
💪 Capability – Encourage independence and problem-solving
🧠 Courage – Foster confidence to try, fail, and grow

When we lead with these C’s, we raise children who feel secure, capable, and empowered—not just obedient.

New Video Available! Behavior is never just behavior. The ABC Model helps us understand what's really going on:
A= Activating event/trigger
B= Your belief system/thoughts
C= Consequences of that belief
When we look at the full picture, we stop reacting- and start understanding.

This one tweak can change how your child feels about themselves. There’s a big difference between praise and encouragement. Praise says, "You’re the best!" Encouragement says, "You worked hard on that." One builds dependence on approval. The other builds confidence from within.

"As a therapist and a fellow human, I want to remind you: you don’t have to be a perfect parent—you just have to be a good enough one. That means showing up, making space for your child’s emotions, and being willing to repair when things go sideways. It's not about never making mistakes; it's about modeling what it looks like to be real, reflective, and connected. Your presence matters more than perfection ever could."

Essential Touchstones

Essential Touchstones, LLC, is an organization that provides Intensive Outpatient Treatment services to adolescents ages 13 to 18 who meet the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for a substance use disorder or other addictive disorder. Adolescents with a co-occurring mental illness (addiction and mood disorder) may also benefit from these services. Our clinical services are provided by doctorate-level, master’s-level licensed or provisionally-licensed clinicians.

The facility also offers music & art classes which have been proven to reduce stress and express emotions. We have a nationally board-certified music therapist and an art teacher who will offer regular classes.
