Treating the high-functioning mind requires more than symptom management—it demands precision, trust, and a deep understanding of performance under pressure. We are so excited to have our very own Dr. Avani K. Patel, MD, MHA speak at the upcoming Mississippi Psychiatric Association & Tennessee Psychiatric Association meeting on “Treating the High-Functioning Mind: Sports Psychiatry, Performance Mental Health, & Concierge Care.”

From athletes to high-achieving professionals, many individuals operate at exceptional levels while silently navigating stress, burnout, substance use, and identity challenges. This talk explores how we can meet them where they are—integrating performance-focused frameworks with personalized, concierge-level care. Because high performance shouldn’t come at the cost of mental health—and the standard of care should rise to meet the standard of the patient. Looking forward to connecting, learning, and advancing the conversation around cultivating mental wellness in the modern south!

Our very own, Dr. Avani K. Patel, interviewed for this article 👩🏻‍⚕️ such a trendy & interesting topic socially — sharing a few teasers from the article…“Over time, birth order theory became popular in cultural psychology and parenting literature, though its scientific standing has been debated for decades,” Dr. Patel says. “Outcomes depend far more on parenting quality, peer exposure, and social opportunities,” Patel adds. Patel notes that early family roles do not determine your full adult potential or psychological health. “From a psychiatric standpoint, emphasizing plasticity, resilience, and agency is far more evidence-based — and far more empowering — than relying on birth order explanations,” she says. Birth order theory is a concept in family dynamics psychology that posits sibling position may influence personality traits. Here's what the evidence says.

Such a timely news video clip & article featuring our very own Dr. Avani Patel covered by Matt Lawfer in Plattsburgh, NY titled “Combating Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)” — so appreciative this important topic is being highlighted…sharing a snippet here: “This time of year is tough for those who suffer from seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a type of depression affecting millions of Americans. Our region sees very little sunshine during the winter, which plays a big role in SAD, as board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Avani Patel explains. Dr. Patel said one unique method she shares with all of her patients is a daily routine of affirmation and gratitude. ‘I recommend starting your day with an affirmation, and starting your day with at least one topic of gratitude that you may have,’ said Patel. ‘That makes a difference because you’re setting the tone. What you’re doing is you’re creating a little bit of a serotonin boost, if you will.’” Link to article & news clip: https://www.mychamplainvalley.com/news/combating-seasonal-affective-disorder-sad/
