This year, MSMA invited our members to share the names of women physicians making a difference in their communities and in medicine. Some stories were shared in detail, others simply by name—but every recognition reflects the profound impact these women have on Mississippi healthcare.

MSMA proudly recognizes Dr. Avani Patel, psychiatrist and AMA Delegate, whose compassion and leadership embody the very best of medicine. Dr. Patel has built a career of service to patients and her community—pioneering a concierge psychiatric practice to expand access, advocating for the indigent population, and mentoring the next generation of physicians. Honored with awards in leadership, advocacy, and teaching, she is also deeply engaged in philanthropy and nonprofit work. To her patients, she is more than a physician—she is a lifeline, a confidante, and a source of hope.
