The Mississippi State Medical Association is the largest physician advocacy organization in Mississippi, representing nearly 5,000 physicians, residents and medical students. For over 150 years, MSMA has served the state's physicians as a trusted health policy leader and professional development resource. We advocate for our members and their patients at the state and federal levels, provide information on healthcare legislation and regulatory changes, offer professional development and continuing medical education opportunities, and promote campaigns for public health.

Speaking as a private practice founder, she emphasized the urgency surrounding private equity, corporate ownership, and the protection of physician autonomy — while underscoring the legal complexity of federal CPOM legislation. Dr. Patel advocated for referral to the AMA Board to allow for a thorough, disciplined review that strengthens physician leadership without unintended consequences for rural or safety-net practices.
