πŸ’œπŸ’šSummer Updates from The Rooted Refuge

We wanted to take this edition of our newsletter to center our community and say that as a clinic of entirely q***r providers, we are dedicated to supporting your health now more than ever. Our hearts are broken at the myriad of ways in which we are all being affected by current circumstances, but our ethos of care for us/by us will never change! We are collecting resources and will be doing more free clinics (look out for one later this month on our insta ) to make sure that q***r healthcare continues to be accessible. If you have any providers you think we should add to our database, please let us know so we can make sure there’s always a safe place for our community to go.

Our exciting news for this month is in welcoming our longtime friend Kelpy Cathedral to The Rooted Refuge! Kelpy is especially passionate about treating transgender and gender-nonconforming people, and they specialize in pre- and post-operative care for gender-affirming surgeries, which includes building the immune system, improving circulation, relieving pain and inflammation, and treating scars. You can catch Kelpy on Monday mornings and early afternoons.

More of you have noticed our board by the door recently, and we wanted to encourage y’all to bring in stuff to hang! You’ll also notice that starting this month, there will be a new β€œseasonal points/solar terms” report next to our board which will detail the 24 unique segments of time that correspond with the changes of season, helping to guide us to the best types of food, movement, and activities for each time period.

Lastly, a gentle reminder that parking has been a bit of a challenge lately as there is more construction in Ridgewood than in previous years - please consider alternate forms of transportation, or plan for extra time for parking as we are not always able to accommodate late arrivals.

Sending thoughts of q***r liberation this pride season and always,

Dr. Stephanie & Dr. Christopher

πŸ’šOur special February fundraiser on Valentine’s Day will feature our friends over at Supermoon Art Space, an amazing local community art center and daycare whose programming is designed to create lasting connections between diverse groups of people through art-making and inquiry.

πŸ’œSince opening in 2017, Supermoon has provided high-quality, art-infused childcare, and hosted countless workshops, performances, and gatherings in our community. Despite the severe challenges brought on by the pandemic, they have kept their positive momentum going and are now growing and branching out to offer art classes in public schools as well. Supermoon provides so much care and joy to our local kids and their families, and we’d like to support their growth so they can continue to create new programs for years to come.

πŸ’šPlease join us for a visit from 11am-3pm on Tuesday February 14th; 100% of proceeds from treatments that afternoon will be donated to Supermoon Art Space.

πŸ’œVisit our website to book. Be sure to choose "2/14/23 Supermoon Fundraiser -- Acupuncture Treatment"

πŸ’š Happy autumn y’all! Our first Fundraiser Friday of the season on October 7th will feature The National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition, an incredibly comprehensive social justice organization led by black trans people to collectively address the inequities faced in the black transgender human experience.

Their work is based in peace building, community education, public policy initiatives, empowerment programs and direct services.

πŸ’š Please join us for a visit on October 7th; 100% of proceeds from treatments that afternoon will be donated to The National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition.

We are very excited to tell you that we are having a very special fundraiser at The Rooted Refuge to support the production of Tin Lee’s upcoming film β€œWait for Me at the Bottom of the Sea”. Tin has this to say about the film:
