My daughter is running for 2020-2021 Student Body President at Harrington Park Elementary school.

She really deserves this opportunity to serve her community next year. She really cares about the students and the staff.

Send her a lot of prayers and positive energy.

Leaving this here for those who are searching...

Cultivate positive identity formation, encourage students to confront racial and ethnic injustice, and prepare them to live and work together in a diverse world. Our resources can help you facilitate discussions about race and guide students through lessons on white privilege, economic inequality, mass incarceration, the complexities of identity and more.

“We may be uncomfortable talking about race, but we can no longer afford to be silent. We have chosen a profession that—like parenting—requires us to put our comforts second to those of children.”

This was my conversation with one of my best friends for over 20 years.

He happens to be Mexican. He grew up on the south side of Chicago and was very poor.

He now is a counselor for a college in Wisconsin. He’s an awesome dude who has been through a lot to get to where he is in life. I’m very proud of him.

I think after reading this you can see that its not about taking one side or the other.

It’s very complicated, even for a person of color.

I’m grateful we had this conversation and I’m grateful for every conversation I’ve had over the last week.

Uncomfortable but honest conversations with women and men of all colors, civilians and law enforcement.

Make sure you are having these conversations with all different types of people.

Don’t just post on social media or peacefully protest. Have conversations. Educate yourself.

FOCUS ON THE WHY AND NOT ON THE WHAT.

Open mind.

Open ears.

Open eyes.

Open heart.

Momma said there’ll be days like this...

I think all our parental role models handed us a version of this at one time or another, right? However, I don’t know if they gave us the down and the dirty. I don’t know if yours shared with you the good, the bad, and the ugly. I know mine didn’t.

If my mother expressed to me the truth about motherhood; that it wasn’t all rainbows and puppy dog tails and that it was going to be one of the hardest journey’s of my life...

I probably wouldn’t have listened anyway.

We here at Yin and Yang Mom focus on authenticity and reality. There is a light and dark side of this journey. We are living and raising our children in different times. Social media and rapidly changing technology are making our job twice as hard. Not only are many of us navigating unfamiliar waters in this digital age, we are struggling in our own identity.
