Ryley Renee Mclaughlin

Ryley Renee McLaughlin, lovingly known as “Ryley Roo,” age 22, gained her wings on December 31, 2025, in New Haven, Illinois. Born on January 28, 2003, in San Diego, California, to Bret and Deborah McLaughlin, Ryley came into this world a fighter and a survivor. At just 2 pounds 10 ounces and 13 inches long, she showed from the very beginning the incredible strength and determination that would define her life.Ryley had the kindest heart, the most selfless soul, and a fierce determination that never wavered. She loved unconditionally—whether it was her family, her animals, or a stranger—and she had a way of making everyone feel loved, accepted, and seen. Despite facing many obstacles in her short 22 years, Ryley persevered with grace and courage, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.She cherished meaningful conversations and could always make others laugh and smile with her quick wit and playful sarcasm. Ryley especially loved spending time with her animals and adored her nieces and nephews, who brought her immense joy. Her infectious smile and huge heart filled with love will forever be remembered.Ryley is survived by her loving parents, Bret and Deborah McLaughlin, her siblings;Tucker (Heather) Bowyer, Kristina (Justin Schackart) McGaha, Sarah (Jonathan) Berry, Brianne (Robbie) Day, Breanna Pena, Taylor Bowyer, and Andrew (Tori Woods) Steffensmeier. Many nieces and nephews; Calli, Isla, Zoe, Sheldon, Noah, Scarlett, Juliett, Brett, Kensey, Konley, Kaysley, Madden, Isabella, Gabriella, Aubriella, Clara, Caden, Ethan, Kara, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her Maternal Grandparents, Daniel and Sharon Shearer, and Paternal Grandmother Catherine (Johnny) Gleason.Ryley returning home to Heaven has left a huge hole in our hearts, and we have been forever changed by her life. Yet we find comfort in knowing she is free of pain, at peace, and now the angel in Heaven as she was on Earth. Our sweet girl was richly blessed, and in the short time she spent on this earth, she blessed—and continues to bless—countless others. She is deeply loved, will be forever missed, and we hold fast to the hope that one day we will be reunited with her again.A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Thank you to all for your love, words, prayers, and support during this time.

Susan Lee Hale

Susan Lee Hale, 73, of Metamora, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at her residence, after a brief illness.

She was born on August 14, 1952, in Eldorado, IL, to Joseph R. and Phyllis (Miner) Hale. She married Ted H. Kalley on April 8, 1995, in Metamora, Illinois.

Surviving is her sister, Sally Hale of Atlanta, GA; step-children, Ron (Geni) Kalley, Tim (Jeanine) Kalley, and Denis Cyr, and their children; niece, Nicole Hale (Michael) Bettis of Carrollton, GA and their children Clementine and Indiana Bettis; nephew, Chris (Monica) Hale of Griffin, GA and their children Zachary and Lucas Hale; and her beloved dog Josie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted, brother Joseph R. Hale, Jr., stepdaughter Jeanie Cyr; stepfather Harold F. West, stepmother Marie Hale, maternal grandparents W.L. “Butch” and Pearl Miner, and paternal grandparents E.L. and Grace Hale.

Susan grew up in Ridgway, IL where she graduated from Ridgway High School. She attended Southern Illinois University and Bradley University, where she received her bachelor’s degree. She retired from the U.S Postal Service. More than anything, Susan enjoyed meeting people and spending time with her friends. As a college student in Carbondale, this often meant skipping class for a hike and picnic or attending a concert. In more recent decades it was meeting Ted and her friends at The Grill where “everyone knew her name”. Susan enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family, especially if it included good food and wine.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Burial of Ashes will be held in Jackson Cemetery in Ridgway, IL at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Foster Pet Outreach, 10206 West Dubois Road, Edwards, IL 61528 or online at www.fosterpetoutreach.org or to Camp Sunshine, 1850 Clairmont Road, Decatur, GA 30033 or online at mycampsunshine.com.
