Hello Ouray County!

On April 1, we received the latest wastewater dashboard for our local wastewater surveillance program - Ouray County Wastewater Watch. These samples were taken on 3/23/26 and 3/24/26 from the City of Ouray and the Town of Ridgway. I wanted to let our community members know that unfortunately, due to funding limitations, this will be our last local data report - at least until we can secure additional funding.

Our local wastewater program was a grant funded partnership between Ouray County Public Health, the City of Ouray, the Town of Ridgway and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's wastewater program team. Grateful to have truly local data, Ouray County Public Health agency was able to utilize this data to focus our health education messaging and vaccine campaigns. Local community feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and folks expressed appreciation for local health insights which helped guide individual health decisions based on the knowledge of which illnesses were circulating locally.

The Ouray County Wastewater Watch Program was only accomplished through partnership. If public health is able to secure additional grant funding, our goal is to re-start the wastewater testing program within the next year. Until that time, our regional wastewater sentinel site testing will be our go-to data source. The closest sentinel wastewater testing sites are Durango, Grand Junction and Telluride. Here is the link to the CDPHE wastewater interactive data dashboard: https://cdphe.colorado.gov/dcphr/wastewater

Please stay tuned for more information and feel free to reach out with any questions about the CDPHE wastewater testing program.

Have a happy and healthy spring!
Warmly,
Kristin Kelley

Respiratory syncytial virus β€” commonly known as RSV β€” can cause severe illness in infants, young children, and older adults. Some people may benefit from an immunization against RSV. Talk with your health care provider about you, your child, or a loved one’s risk for severe RSV. The RSV vaccine is not an annual vaccine.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus is on the rise throughout the state and here locally in Ouray County. Know what to look for and how you can protect yourself and your family from getting RSV this spring.

While most people who get RSV will only have cold symptoms, illness may be more severe in infants, young children, and older adults. RSV is the most common cause of hospitalizations in infants. RSV symptoms can include a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, coughing, fever, decreased appetite, and difficulty breathing or wheezing.
