365 days. Another year of changes. Another chapter closed.
One year ago today Jamie made the journey from Florida back to PA. He arrived to my home with a suitcase, sadness, and uncertainty of the future. Our work began immediately with the goal being healthy, happy, independent. I am so proud of us, goals accomplished!
Traumatic brain injuries don’t just go away and going back to the way things were isn’t an option. Jamie worked so hard this year learning to adapt and find tools to help with the daily struggles that remain from a brain injury. Jamie has spent the last year working on his mental health and working through the trauma that comes with someone trying to take your life. It’s not something that just goes away and the support of trauma professionals has impacted Jamie in only positive ways.
This last year hasn’t always been easy but it has all been worth it. Seeing Jamie thrive will always be worth it and the ugly reality is if he didn’t return to PA, he probably wouldn’t be here today.
As for justice, we continue to wait. We thought this chapter would close in December but at the last minute it was delayed. Again. We all remain hopeful this chapter can close soon.
