We’ve spent a lot of time talking about Jamie’s journey of physical recovery but we haven’t talked much about Jamie’s mental health journey. Since today marks the last day of PTSD awareness month, it feels like a good time to do just that.

We have all experienced trauma in our lives and we all have dealt with those traumas in different ways. Not everyone will develop PTSD and certain traumas, like violence, carry a higher risk. Some symptoms of PTSD include flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and other sleep disturbances. Treatment includes talk therapy and medication, and a strong support system.

Jamie went through something horrific. Something most of us can’t imagine going through. Because of this trauma and lack of closure, Jamie recently received a PTSD diagnosis and began the long process of healing. This journey is very different from healing physically, it’s more personal and requires a different kind of grit. We are playing catch up as early intervention is most beneficial but we are seeing incredible growth and healing. Each day I see a bit more of Jamie coming back; he has color in his face, a sparkle back in his eyes and a genuine smile we haven’t seen in far too long.
Jamie very recently added a companion to join his journey. Cats can help reduce anxiety, blood pressure, heart rate and their purring promotes relaxation. Richard has wasted no time making himself right at home. 💚💙

3 years. It’s absolutely wild to think it’s been 3 years since Jamie’s life was changed. Sometimes it feels like it’s been a lifetime and sometimes it feels like yesterday.

Jamie King continues to thrive despite his circumstances. He continues to have a positive attitude despite what’s been thrown his way. The way he pushes through is inspirational. We can all see how far Jamie has physically come. He’s out riding his beloved motorcycle, spending time with his great friends, hanging out with cousins, and of course keeping me busy. But brain injuries are invisible. You can’t see that he lives everyday in pain, that he continues to need different therapies to aid his recovery, that there’s always a doctor appointment to get to. This is a never ending marathon that Jamie takes every day in stride.

The wheels of justice continue to move slowly though we can finally see an end in sight, a trial date on the horizon. A chance for Jamie to tell his story, show how amazing he is, and finally put that person away. We look forward to this closure.

Thank you all for your continued support for Jamie over these last 1,095 days. He wouldn’t be where he is today without all of you.

Yesterday closed out Brain Injury Awareness month. It’s also been a month since Jamie moved into his new apartment. He is settling in and turning his apartment into a home. Our mom (the puzzle lady) took a photo of Jamie’s beloved bike, turned it into a puzzle and is having it framed to really make his place homey.

Big life changes are scary, they’re scarier when you are healing from a severe brain injury and the trauma of a violent attack on your life.
There are a lot of moving parts and Jamie is once again showing he can do anything as long as he has support and encouragement. It also turns out that Jamie and I make a pretty good team, our parents are proud. We’ve had a whirlwind of appointments that have sometimes felt overwhelming but they’re putting Jamie on a path of success and it has all been worth it. I can’t wait to watch him thrive.
It hasn’t all been easy, big life changes rarely are. Jamie is so fortunate to have an amazing circle of friends and family. It’s been heartwarming to see people coming together to lift him up and see how many people truly care for him.
Thank you all for your continued support and thoughts and prayers. Keep them coming, Jamie feels the love. 💚

Today begins Brain Injury Awareness month and yet another new chapter in Jamie’s Journey. 💚

It’s been 1,032 days since Jamie’s life was changed forever. Since then he has worked so hard and overcome so much and as life for everyone moved forward, Jamie found himself stuck.

There is a saying, “A king's true strength lies not in his power, but in his courage to face adversity and rise above it.” If this doesn’t encapsulate Jamie King, I don’t know what does. It wasn’t an easy decision but Jamie has returned to Pennsylvania and today with the help of family he moved into his own apartment. Jamie has always risen above any circumstances and this one will be no different. He is back with an amazing support system and people who are ready to walk beside him and make sure he succeeds with every step he takes.

I (his big sister) cannot express how proud I am of him. We are taking life by the horns and handling it. Jamie has an incredible attitude and drive for life and I’m going to see to it that he has the life he deserves, the support that he needs, and that he feels the love every step of the way. There is work to be done and we’ll do it together. Jamie will rise above, grow, and come out on top. He’s got a beautiful life to live and I’m excited to help him achieve his goals.

We still wait for justice for Jamie. It’s frustrating how long the court systems can take. It’s hard to find closure when this chapter seems to never end. The only solace is knowing someone sits behind bars not living while Jamie gets to continue to do so.

Please keep Jamie in your thoughts, as you have for the past 1,032 days.
Thank you to everyone who has helped make his apartment a home. Thank you to those who helped to get him moved and settled. Your support and love means so much to Jamie and I.

Brain injuries are tricky. One moment you’re fine and the next you aren’t. A sneaky reminder when things are going well that they are not as they once were.

Jamie had a seizure yesterday. He had just gotten to church for a meeting, something he does every Monday. Everything was fine and then it wasn’t.
Jamie was transported to the local hospital and is being monitored and should be able to go home tomorrow. We are hoping with some adjustments to his medications he will not have another seizure. But brain injuries are tricky and there is no guarantee.

Jamie is thriving two years after his life was forever changed but there are still struggles and worries. This setback is just a setup for the comeback.

Please continue to keep Jamie in your thoughts. Continue to keep his family in your thoughts, especially his kids. This is not an easy road to travel and Jamie is doing it with grit, strength and your support.

Two years. May 3, 2022 feels like a lifetime ago and also feels like yesterday. It can be difficult to wrap your head around where life was and where it currently is.

Jamie is doing wonderful and continues to work on life after. He is enjoying life in Florida, especially the warm weather. He recently got his license back and has been loving being back on his pride and joy. The Snot Rocket (🤢) even placed at a recent bike show. Thanks to two wonderful friends, Doug and Jeff, for delivering it with care so he could have that piece of his soul back.

Jamie has been going to the gym and continues to work on his strength. I can’t wait for him to visit PA so I can drag him to the gym for a sibling workout.

The justice system continues to move extremely slowly and while it’s frustrating and we all want this chapter to close we take solace that the criminal who did this sits behind bars. We can only hope the system works as it should and he continues to stay there for a very long time.

Thank you for your continued positivity and thoughts. Thank you to those who have stuck with Jamie through this. It is a testament of who has his back and we are thankful for every one of you that does. Thank you for your continued support for Nicole and the kids, their life changed forever too on that day.
Cheers to another year of healing and moving forward. 🥂

Today begins Brain Injury Awareness month. Something our family didn’t know too much about just a couple of years ago.

No two traumatic brain injuries are alike and can vary in severity. Because the brain is such a complicated organ it can be difficult to predict how someone will recover from a brain injury.

Jamie’s recovery is nothing short of a miracle. He has surpassed what anyone thought would be possible. Jamie has had to relearn almost everything he once knew, even the most basic functions of life. He has thrived because of his doctors, his dedicated therapists and most importantly his family and friends. There are still things that Jamie is working on and some things that will likely never be the way they were. We are all learning this new life together.

During this National Brain Injury Awareness month, I challenge you to learn something about brain injuries and educate someone else.

Jamie didn’t waste anytime…. His biggest goal was to get his license back and get back on his pride and joy. Today that happened!

So happy Jamie has this piece of his life back.
Please continue to think of his continued recovery but also his safety as he gets back out there.

Our absence of updates doesn’t mean there hasn’t been hard work happening. Jamie King is out here making big moves in his recovery!

Jamie will gain so much independence and even more normalcy having his license back. Such a huge step and accomplishment.

The judicial process continues to move at a snails pace and while we wished it moved faster we are happy the coward who tried to take his life continues to sit in a cell.
