Mouth taping involves taping over the mouth during sleep to encourage nose breathing rather than mouth breathing.

Experts agree that there is a lack of evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of mouth taping.
In addition, the risks of mouth taping include shallow breathing, insufficient blood oxygen and suffocation, particularly among those with obstructive sleep apnea.

In a study published in Exploratory Research and Hypothesis in Medicine, researchers (using newly married couples as their subjects) found that close physical contact could allow for the transmission of oral bacteria that may influence emotional (depression and anxiety) and physical health.

Plaque-induced gingival inflammation can be the sole reason leading to gingival hyperplasia (gum overgrowth) in orthodontic patients. 🦷🪥
This is a case performed at out practice. Excess gingival tissue was removed with a didode laser followed by tissue re-contouring to improve esthetics and aid in hygiene routines.

A 30-year study found that women who consumed one or more sugar-sweetened beverages per day had nearly 5 times the risk of developing oral cancer compared with those who consumed less than one per month.

Investigators suggested that components of sugar-sweetened beverages such as high fructose corn syrup could result in oral dysbiosis-causing inflammation as well as increases in blood glucose and insulin levels, leading to carcinogenesis.
