Most people don’t have a thinking problem.

They have a reactivity problem.

They feel it rise before they even know what’s happening—tight chest, shallow breath, that familiar sense of urgency or shutdown. And then the story comes in to explain it.

We try to think our way out of it.We analyze it.We talk about it.

But the body is already there.

And the body doesn’t respond to explanation. It responds to experience.

Over the years, I’ve watched people understand their patterns beautifully—and still feel stuck inside them. Not because they aren’t insightful, but because their nervous system hasn’t had a different experience yet.

What actually changes things is much simpler.

Slowing down enough to notice.Orienting to where you are.Letting the body settle before the story takes over.

Sometimes it starts with something as small as a yawn.

Not because the yawn fixes anything—but because it signals that something in the system is shifting.

From Reactivity to Regulation is a small group I’m offering that focuses on this shift.

It’s not about processing your past or analyzing your thoughts.

It’s about learning how to come back to a place in yourself that feels more steady, more centered, and more available—before everything escalates.

Because when the body feels even a little more settled, everything else changes.

Most people think change starts with insight.

It doesn’t.

It starts with finding your center.

I see it all the time—people who can explain everything about their past, their triggers, their patterns…

And still feel completely thrown off when life happens.

Because understanding isn’t the same as being grounded.

So we start somewhere else.

Feet on the floor.
Eyes orienting.
Letting the body settle, even just a little.

And then it happens—

A breath drops.
Shoulders soften.
Something shifts.

“I feel… here.”

That’s it.

Not fixed.
Not perfect.

But here.

And when you’re here, you’re no longer lost inside everything you feel.

You can stay with yourself.
You can respond instead of react.

That’s where real change begins.

Sometimes it’s hard to believe I’ve been in the mental health field for almost 30 years now. I’m still just as excited now as when I was a fresh out of school! What a blessing to love what I do and keep learning more everyday.

My latest passion has been learning and teaching Coherent Body. It’s basically learning how to stand, sit, walk, breath, so the whole body is a moving EMDR processing system. It’s amazing to see how quickly things start to shift. And in the long haul, it seems to churn out the dysfunctional attachment issues towards a more secure earned attachment. That’s just by body movements alone. This is cutting edge in mental health!

If you don’t care for too much talking about your traumas in therapy, but want deep change that lasts, try a couple of days and see for yourself!
