Amla Healing Arts "Difficulty with healing looked upon in the right way... is called education. When the mind is brought into harmony, the body heals."

Misty, a certified bodywork therapist and acupuncturist, began practicing holistic medicine in 2002 when she pursed a yoga teaching certification after seeing the amazing effects of yoga and meditation on the mentally ill. From there, her continued interest lead her to eventually study and become certified in massage therapy and complete a Masters of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in NYC. Combining acupuncture and bodywork in practice opened many doors to a deeper study of the human body. After graduating from graduate school, Misty continued to build upon her knowledge and mold her healing techniques with further study in pain management. She completed studies in Quantum Neurology Sensory and Motor Rehabilitation with Dr. George Gonzalez, DC and Pain Neutralization with Dr. Stephen Kaufman, DC. In 2006 Misty began to travel annually to Peru to learn about medicinal plants in the Amazon with a plant maestro. Her enchantment with botany and the inherent intelligence of plants led her to the future use of the medicines of different cultures, such as Chinese formulas, Amazonian plant medicine, and Auyervedic herbs, and medicinal oils. After completing her graduate studies, Misty traveled to Nepal to live and work in Sechen Monastery Clinic and Hospice, in Katmandu, Nepal. While living in Boudhanath, she began to deepen her study of Buddhism while also working to treat the local people of the community with free acupuncture and herbal medicine. Over the course of her time abroad, she also participated in health camps with other local people, visiting remote villages and monasteries to provide community healthcare to villagers who do not have accessibility to doctors or hospitals. Misty utilizes all her experience to create a very healing space and strives to be a strong support for her patients. She loves treating people and seeing the benefits of holistic medicine shine through each one.

I truly love seaweed and moss as edibles. I swear by kelp always as a great thyroid support, I add it to soups and broths all the time. I am starting to experiment with some Irish sea moss just in time to celebrate St. Patrick this year ☘ This stuff has got some magical benefits, so I'm super excited to play around with it.
I bought some "wildcrafted raw" sea moss because the alternative is pool-grown and chlorine treated. So nope.
I washed it a few times then soaked it in some purified water overnight. I added some lemon for a few hours. Then I blended moss and the water (which after soaking the moss is so nutrient dense) in my Vitamix. I added bee pollen and honey to half of the blended moss. I kept the other half a simple gel to use on my skin as a nutrient dense face mask. I put a few mason jars in the fridge, which will last up to 1 month, and the rest in the freezer, where it will be safe for up to 3 months.
Do not boil sea moss. You loose so much nutrient value if you prepare it that way.
This sea moss is a macro algae that is really like "Nature's multivitamin". This stuff has a complete amino acid profile, has 92 of the 110 minerals the body is made from, and it contains beta-carotene, vitamin B, vitamin C, and sulfur as well as minerals like magnesium, manganese, calcium, phosphorus, and zinc. It is very rich in iodine too, a precursor to healthy thyroid hormone production.. So much good stuff!
I found it is very easy to dissolve the refridgerated gel in boiled water. I added the sea moss / bee pollen / honey mixture to some hot water with lemon, monkfruit sweetener, and 2 ginger cubes. So good!
Bringing some to the office to gift to some nutritionally adventurous patients!!

I am so into ginger right now. Sometimes it gets annoying to cut and steep when I'm in a rush. So I don't do it as often as I need / want to... I decided to make pre--made ginger ice cubes instead! Super easy and you can just toss a cube into some hot water or tea or add to a smoothie everyday... And the leftover paste from the strainer is amazing to use when cooking a recipe that calls for ginger.

I used my Vitamix to blend two whole ginger roots with 3 cups of filtered water. I didn't peel the ginger, just washed and coarsely cut. Ginger peel is edible. It contains 2X the beneficial polyphenols as the flesh and importantly, unique and distinct compounds.

Blended for 60 secs on high, strained with a fine mesh, and poured into silicone ice cube trays. Boom!

Hey everyone,

Out of an abundance of caution I am closing my acupuncture clinic until at least the end of March.

I've debated this all week and carefully considered the options to help keep us all safe. In the end I have decided to temporarily close the clinic to insure that we help with the principal of social distancing to slow the spread of the Corona Virus. Acupuncturists all around the country have been debating and conferring and many are going to close for at least 2 weeks while we wait to see how the spread of the virus affects the country.

As you may have read, the Corona Virus (Covid-19) can be carried with no symptoms for many days. Symptoms are primarily fever, dry cough, sore throat and shortness of breath. Many people, perhaps most, will have only a mild case. The danger lies in passing the virus unknowingly to the elderly population, as well as to people who are immuno-compromised, smokers, asthmatics, etc.

By minimizing contact with each other we are minimizing and slowing the spread of the virus and helping to keep our hospital system from being suddenly overwhelmed with serious cases as we have seen in Italy. The US is not prepared with testing or adequate numbers of hospital beds per capita to handle sudden influxes of serious cases, so it is up to all of us to take measures to help each other out, especially the most vulnerable among us.

I take your health and well being seriously and am making the economically difficult decision to close the office until we have a better understanding of what needs to be done to safeguard each of us and to help contribute to the best possible outcome for our community.

Please continue to reach out to me if you have any questions about herbs, supplements, or wellness. I will be available to help you navigate through all this, so don't hesitate to reach out.

With love and wishes for your well-being,
Misty

Seems like the cold season is starting early this year.... Moxa is my go-to a lot of the time. But what is it?
is heat stimulation of acupoints on the body. Moxa can be used to help prevent diseases and maintain health. It's an effective way to help strengthen the organs and immune system. It warms the meridians and expels cold from the body. It is wonderful to promote circulation over areas of chronic pain or muscle tension. Feels really nice too. Especially useful as we start to acclimate to chillier temperatures.
