Tight traps? Neck and shoulder pain that won’t go away?
This is one of our favorite ways to treat it 👇

Shockwave therapy is incredibly effective for stubborn trigger points in the upper trapezius—especially when stretching and massage only give temporary relief.

🔊 In this video, we’re using shockwave to:
• Break up chronic muscle tension
• Improve blood flow to the area
• Decrease pain and sensitivity
• Restore normal muscle function

Most trap pain isn’t just “tightness”…
It’s often overactive, fatigued muscle with poor stability underneath.

That’s why we combine treatments like shockwave with:
✔️ Targeted mobility
✔️ DNS-based stabilization
✔️ Postural correction

💡 The goal: not just relief—but lasting change

If you’ve been dealing with:
• Neck stiffness
• Shoulder tension
• Headaches from trap tightness

This might be a great option for you.

You’re walking around Disney, kids excited for Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh…

…and we are over here thinking:
“Now THAT is a great extension reminder.” 😂

A random sign telling you to backbend?
Way more exciting than it should be.

Because you know what’s coming:

✈️ Travel
🚗 Sitting
🏨 Hotel beds

= stiff, cranky low backs

So yeah… we actually love seeing stuff like this.

Honestly, every hotel should have a sign that says:
“Do your exercises.”

Doesn’t take much:
• 30–60 seconds
• A few extensions
• Reset the spine

Enjoy the trip and keep your back feeling good.

Because even at Disney…
your home exercise program doesn’t take a vacation.

3rd segment! If you’ve been following along, this is the final step to complete the Turkish get-up. From here in the high kneeling position we need to use quads and glutes and raise our body up while using core to maintain balance. Once you have stoop up straight, level out the feet and maintain the position for a few seconds before returning back to high kneeling. Leave a comment and let us know if you found this breakdown helpful and would like to see other exercises broken down.

Part 2 of the TGU! From where we left off Dr Powers had his palm planted in a 7-month oblique sit. From here we contact the ground with our left knee and activate left glute to lift the pelvis off the ground. Then we swing our right leg over and plant our right foot on the ground. Once stable in a high kneeling position we use our core to lift our hand off the floor and upright the spine. Once stable we retrace our steps back to the beginning. This segment goes through 7 month - 11 month DNS poses. We’re almost there! Hang tight for the final segment!!

The Turkish get-up is an excellent exercise to help build core stability and control, but it can be tricky to learn if trying for the first time. Here Dr Powers breaks down the movement using DNS transition movements from 3 month through 7 month positions. With this movement, the key is going slow and controlling the movement. If this movement is brand new to you, try it out without weight and slowly add weight as you feel comfortable. Once you become comfortable with this segment, you can move onto part two. Stay tuned!!

Movement Starts at Birth—and Guides Us for Life

At River Forest Health & Wellness, our pediatric care is rooted in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) and the way typically developing infants naturally learn to move.

By understanding how babies build stability, coordination, and efficient movement patterns, we’re able to apply those same developmental principles to adult care—helping restore proper movement, posture, and stability at any age.

From infant care to adult rehabilitation, development always matters.

Cat and Camel + cupping = a powerful combo for mid-back tightness.

By moving into thoracic extension (Camel pose) while cups are applied, we:
✔️ Break up fascial adhesions
✔️ Improve tissue glide
✔️ Relax overactive mid-back muscles
✔️ Restore healthier thoracic mobility

This is an active approach to cupping—using movement to amplify the effects and help your spine move the way it’s meant to.

Perfect for desk posture, athletes, or anyone feeling stiff through the mid back.

This reel shows a McKenzie-based knee extension progression we commonly use to restore motion, reduce pain, and improve load tolerance at the knee 👇

Progression breakdown:
▪️ Seated terminal knee extension
▪️ Loaded knee extension with overpressure
▪️ Belted seated knee extension
▪️ Seated overpressure into terminal extension
▪️ Terminal knee extension with banded resistance

Why this matters ⬇️
Loss of terminal knee extension is one of the most common drivers of:
• Persistent knee pain
• Swelling & stiffness
• Altered gait mechanics
• Delayed return to sport or activity

Using principles from the McKenzie Institute, we:
✔️ Restore motion first
✔️ Progress load gradually
✔️ Respect symptom response
✔️ Build long-term resilience—not just short-term relief

💡 Key takeaway:
If the knee can’t fully extend, the rest of the chain pays the price—hip, ankle, and even low back.

📍Need help figuring out which progression is right for you?
That’s where a proper assessment matters.

💙 First full day back in the office! 💙

We’re so excited to welcome Dr. Strang back for her first full day, and she had a very special visitor helping her through the day.

Parker stopped by to give mommy a little extra encouragement (and a lot of smiles). We’re grateful for moments like these and thrilled to have Dr. Strang back caring for our patients. 🍼✨

✨ If you’re still looking to book an appointment, Dr. Strang has a few openings available for the remainder of the month. ✨

🚦 Pain During Activity? Here’s How We Guide Patients

One of the most common questions we get is:
“Should I stop if something hurts?”

At River Forest Health & Wellness, we use a simple traffic-light system to help you decide what’s safe — and what’s not.

🟢 GREEN = Good to Go
• No pain during or after the activity
• Safe to continue
• This is the goal

🟡 YELLOW = Proceed With Caution
• Mild increase in pain or discomfort
• Pain returns to baseline within 10–30 minutes
• Often okay to continue — but we may modify load, reps, or form

🔴 RED = Stop
• Significant increase in pain
• Pain lingers 1–24 hours after the activity
• This tells us your body isn’t ready yet — and pushing through may slow healing

👉 Pain is information, not a failure.
Our job isn’t to stop movement — it’s to help you move smarter, build tolerance, and progress safely.

If you’re unsure where your pain falls on this spectrum, that’s exactly what we help with.
