A new study of 67 people who developed myocarditis after a COVID-19 vaccine found that 1 in 3 still showed signs of heart damage on advanced cardiac MRI scans more than a year later.

Standard tests like ultrasounds often missed these issues, leading many to believe their condition had improved when it had not.

This highlights the importance of cardiac MRI for detecting long-term heart inflammation in vaccine-related myocarditis, even when symptoms seem to improve.

A first-generation antihistamine approved in 1946, diphenhydramine is widely used for allergies, sleep aid and cold symptoms. It’s a common over-the-counter medication in the US, with usage rising in the summer months as people use it to treat itching from bug bites or poison ivy, as well as sneezing and runny nose caused by grass and pollen allergies, according to the American Pharmacists Association.

Ticks! They’re summer’s most unwelcome guests and are lurking everywhere: on golf courses and hiking trails, in backyard gardens and even in city parks.

And this year appears to be especially bad: Emergency-department visits for tick bites are the highest since 2019, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tick-bite data tracker.
