It can often seem taboo to discuss these muscles, but they are essential to the wellbeing of both men and women. Experts discuss how to prevent and treat any problems

Hysterectomy is one of the most common surgical procedures women can go through. Physical recovery from this invasive procedure can be improved with strategies taught by a pelvic floor physical therapist including education on proper breathing techniques, pelvic floor and deep core muscle re-training, posture and biomechanics, proper voiding techniques and positions, home/lifestyle modifications. If you are a candidate for this extensive surgery, ask your physician for a pelvic floor PT referral or reach me directly at (631) 664-3270 - Anna, PT

Approximately 60-80% of people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) experience problems with bladder, bowel and/or sexual function. Since PD affects muscles, changes in pelvic floor could be responsible for urinary and f***l leakage with laugh, cough, sneeze; increased urinary urgency and frequency; constipation and other symptoms. Unfortunately, medications used to treat bladder conditions can have adverse side effects for people with PD. Pelvic floor physical therapy is an effective evidence based conservative treatment option. Ask your physician for a pelvic floor PT referral or contact me directly: (631) 664-3270 - Anna, PT.
