Happy 101st Birthday Dorothy!!!

Dorothy regaled us in tales of her life- she was born in Queens, has a sister, and attended PS 63 & John Adam HS. She also spoke of her happy childhood, and how she married fellow schoolmate Harold when she was 22, which was “kind of old for those times”. They started their family before moving to Hicksville which “seemed so far away from Queens” and was more like the country to them, then had 3 more boys and moved to Kings Park. Dorothy worked, and Harold served 2 years in the Navy which was hard for her, but she did it! They were married for 50 years, and her family is what she is most grateful for, as well as her good, long life and health, and learning how to drive. She also has 7 grandchildren and “sometimes loses count” of her great-grandkids, loves traveling and had some sage advice for you all : “Don’t hold any grudges. Never go to bed angry at anyone.” Dorothy said she has no regrets in her life, and her faith in God has helped her with everything.

📣 Please join us in the comments to wish her a very happy 101st birthday!!!

Don't count your chickens 🐣

In this lively game we hunted for hidden eggs tucked under the watchful eyes of our “Mother Hens” and searched for our matching chicken, with lots of laughter along the way. An egg-cellenty memory game!

Do you believe in magic? 🎩 We threw balls at the magic hat to see who could get them to stick. If the magic works the ball stayed, but if the magic isn't there, the ball would fall.

James Ciervo from the Guinea Pig Funny Farm came to educate us about some fun, furry friends! We had a blast listening to his lecture and cuddling all these cuties.

Acadia Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation

Acadia Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation offers excellent short-term rehabilitation, complex medical care, and subacute skilled nursing, along with long term care. We provide specialized programs and individualized attention to each resident, all in a comfortable, country setting in Riverhead.

If a patient is recovering from surgery, an illness, or accident, our rehabilitation department provides state-of-the-art speech, occupational, and physical therapies, all in our newly renovated therapy center over looking lush gardens. We place an emphasis on mobility, independence, and recovery. Residents appreciate our creative philosophy as we incorporate health and wellness techniques to help each patient return to normal, everyday life.

In the warmer months, we often provide therapy for residents outside so they can spend time in the spacious, beautiful gardens. There is a lovely enclosed courtyard in the garden area as well. Our interdisciplinary team works with each resident and their family, providing the highest possible quality patient care and services.
