Today, Dr. Omar Kadri, orthopedic surgeon at Riverside Community Hospital, had the pleasure of speaking about robotic-assisted total knee and hip surgery to a group of seniors at the Janet Goeske Foundation & Senior Center. Because robot-assisted surgeries are customized to each patient's anatomy and performed using a few small incisions, these minimally invasive procedures can offer patients many benefits, including return to daily activities faster, minimal scarring and shorter hospital stays.

Tipper the Trauma Dog is well loved by our staff, but she also brings joy to our patients - sometimes even after they leave the hospital. Tipper recently visited a former trauma patient at her rehab to check in and see how she was doing. Now that's some quality care service, Tipper!

🧠⏱️ Every second counts when someone is suffering from a stroke. As a Comprehensive Stroke Center, we know door-to-needle (DTN) time is critical. Here, we explain what DTN time is and why it matters.

DTN time is the amount of time between an ischemic stroke patient's arrival at the hospital (“door”) and when they receive a clot-busting medication (“needle”) to help restore blood flow to the brain. The faster the medicine is given, the more brain cells can potentially be saved, helping to reduce the risk of long-term disability or stroke.

The American Heart Assocation recommends medication administration in 60 minutes or less. At Riverside Community Hospital, our goal is under 30 minutes. We are proud to be at wor under our goal as it leads to better patient outcomes.

Young Payton was born in 2020 at Riverside Community Hospital and stayed 14 days in our NICU. Today, he is a thriving 4-year-old with a dream and a mission. He has authored his very first children’s book, Rocket Dreams, and is now on a journey to become the youngest author to set a world record by selling 1,000 copies — all while proudly representing the City of Riverside, where his incredible story began.

Payton and his mother, Jordan, reunited with the NICU care team at Riverside Community Hospital today. Several of Payton’s caregivers had the chance to see the incredible progress the 4-year-old has made and check out his new children’s book.

Payton’s mission aligns with our NICU team’s goal of inspiring parents to read stories to their infants opposed to later as toddlers. To help Payton achieve his goal of selling 1,000 books and support his legacy, Riverside Community Hospital happily purchased 100 books to give to future NICU families upon discharge.

Happy 4th of July!

Our dedicated NICU nurses dressed our smallest and most precious patients in festive red, white, and blue outfits to mark the occasion. These adorable little ones are indeed the stars of the day!

The celebration brought joy to families and highlighted the incredible care and dedication of our staff at Riverside Community Hospital’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Happy (Almost) Fourth of July! We all like a dazzling fireworks show. It may seem harmless to buy a few sparklers, some roman candles and a rocket or two to celebrate the holiday, but it’s important to handle fireworks safely. Before you make any purchases, make sure having fireworks in your area is legal. (They are illegal in Riverside County, by the way.) Don’t break the law for a few fireworks.

Did you know summer is a critical time for blood donation? Far less people are donating in the summer than other seasons. In the time it takes to watch the firework show this Friday, 900 units of blood maybe transfused to a patient in need.

Dr. Kornelis Poelstra was named a 2025 Healthcare Headliner and received the Physician Award for his groundbreaking work in minimally invasive spine surgeries at Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center.
