Your eyes are amazing at adapting to changing light, but did you know it takes about 20–30 minutes for them to fully adjust from bright light to complete darkness? This process, called “dark adaptation,” allows your eyes to become more sensitive so you can see better in low-light conditions. During this time, your pupils dilate, and the light-sensitive cells in your retina regenerate chemicals that help you see in the dark. That’s why stepping into a dark room after being outside on a sunny day might feel like your vision takes a moment to catch up!

It’s true! Around 65% of your brain is involved in processing visual information, making vision your most dominant sense. From recognizing faces and reading text to navigating spaces and reacting to movement, your brain is constantly working behind the scenes to interpret what your eyes see. That’s why taking care of your vision is about more than just seeing clearly, it’s about supporting your overall brain health and daily function. Schedule regular eye exams to keep your eyes (and your mind) sharp!
