Here are three important facts about how vision problems can affect children in school:
1. 1 in 4 school-aged children has a vision problem – Undiagnosed vision issues like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism can hinder reading, writing, and attention in class.
2. Vision problems are often mistaken for learning or behavioral issues – Children may appear distracted, struggle with comprehension, or avoid reading tasks, leading teachers or parents to suspect ADHD or learning disabilities.
3. Early eye exams improve academic success – Detecting and treating vision issues early—especially before age 7—can significantly improve a child’s performance and confidence in school.
