A great question! A lot of you asked some form of this question after I posted my nightly routine.

The answer isn’t yes or no of course 😅
It’s almost always going to be…”it depends”.

It’s been a long time coming but had not been put into action. I always knew at some point I would change the name of my business. But from the thousands of hours of entrepreneur podcasts I would listen to on my way to my PT mill job, It always came up that the name of your business was not particularly a huge importance. It was always emphasized to just get started and go. And so I did just that. But this resulted in me wanting to wait on branding shoots and developing marketing materials, which I feel has held me back in a sense. I always thought to myself, “well, I’ll take care of that when I change my business name down the road.” I finally feel like I’m excited about my business name and feel that it connects better with what I do and am passionate about. I wanted something more specific to match my niche and feel this vibes with exactly that.

Thank you to those who helped me figure this out, it was not easy! 😅

Now to change everything over to the new name 😭
please bear with me as there may be some broken links along the way. Send me a message if something isn’t working so I can jump in and fix it right away.

So officially no longer reviveyourlifept!

The reality is, much of TMD stems from muscular dysfunction and compensations. We have to fix that proactively. There are too many bandaid solutions that claim to fix these things and end up giving more problems.

Client went through maxillomandibular advancement surgery (also known as double jaw surgery). She then came to me for myofunctional therapy/exercise rehab to improve the function of lip seal and strength, tongue strength and mobility, as well as to fine tune proper tongue position and swallowing pattern.

She did really well and was consistent with her exercise routine.

I can’t emphasize enough how important exercises are post jaw surgery. Your body has undergone considerable trauma, you’ve lost body awareness/proprioception, and have to relearn a lot of habitual behaviors. And we want to learn them the right way.

Many people end up needing jaw surgery because long term improper oral function has lead them down that path in the first place. You can improve your orofacial function and your overall jaw function with something as conservative as exercise.

Coffee has shown to increase muscular activation during low frequency stimulation! Now I’m not proposing that all coffee drinkers should make a switch, but for some who are also dealing with TMJD, it may be a good idea to cut it out for a while and see if offers some changes.

All of our activities and behaviors can add up and influence how our TMJ feels on a daily basis.

In the world of TMJD, there is no shortage of complexity to the issues that may overlap with this condition. I have previously shared conditions that tend to co-exist with TMD and there are diagnoses from head to toe (including pelvic floor things!).

But recently, I have started to notice a pattern in patients I see which particularly stood out. Sure, most of them are female, but more than half of my clients report a diagnosis of Hashimoto’s Disease. It has me wondering how many people dealing with TMD are also actually dealing with some level of hypothyroidism they don’t know about.

Now this doesn’t necessarily change the way I personally do things with my clients exercise wise, but it may help unwrap some mysteries surrounding symptoms that appear to be less easy to explain and prompt a referral for blood work.

It can be really easy to overlook the possibility of having hypothyroidism if you are connecting your chronic fatigue and muscle aching and pain to stress or lack of sleep. Cause guess what, those can be the cause of those symptoms too!

But, if you’ve started to address your TMJD and sleep related issues, you’re doing better to manage your stress and eating better, but yet still you feel like a load of crap, it may be helpful to have a work up for possible thyroid issues. You will still need to address the muscular dysfunctions and abnormal movement pattern issues all the same, but with the additional thyroid management, you could see changes for the better.

This will obviously not be the case for EVERYONE. A diagnosis isn’t always the most important thing, but for someone who have been struggling with unanswered questions, it can almost be a relief to have a label on what is going on with them so they can move forward with treatment.
