Did you know there is a science of AWE? Dacher Keltner has been studying it for years and has documented in his latest book the health benefits of being in a state of AWE. For those who have been attending our annual retreat year after year this is not new information. We have felt those injections of AWE. We keep coming back because we experience the connection and the power of something bigger than ourselves.

This year’s retreat is going to be dedicated to the exploration of Awe and the 8 wonders of Awe. You might be surprised to find the number one experience of Awe, by gathering 2600 narratives from all over the world, was witnessing other people’s courage, kindness, and strength during challenges.

I have noticed as a result of COVID and technology many of us have become very isolated and lonely. We have forgotten the importance of fellowship, face to face interactions and moving outside our own egos to experience the mystery and the power of our we-ness. The Present Retreat is designed to encourage belonging, safety, fun, and insights, all producing Awe. We have been doing this for years.

We are excited to add catalyst classes to our schedules this year. We will welcome clinicians with specific expertise, such as the Poly Vagal theory and how to self-regulate emotions through the fight, flight and freeze phenomenon. If you experience depression or anxiety, there will be practical tools to help you navigate those experiences and feel a sense of empowerment. We will have a class on the Five Invitations, a book by Frank Ostaseski. Stepping into the mystery of dying and how to live more fully in the present using Buddhist wisdom. We have a men’s and women’s group, process groups, children’s groups, meditation, yoga, massage and so much more.

The retreat is hosted over Memorial Day weekend May 26-29, 2023. The retreat site is Casa San Carlos in Delray Beach. The cost of weekend is $900 for a shared room and $1050 for a private room (private rooms are limited). This includes food, lodging and therapy. The Bridge to Connection:

This weekend is dedicated to viewing the obstacles that prevent you from experiencing the fulfilling and happy life you deserve. We will continue the tradition of authentic connection, as well as walking through our fears and the unknown. We will continue helping you foster vulnerability and courageousness. This year, we will specifically help you to do this by exploring the topic of regret.

One of our alumni shared an article about an extensive exploration of patients that were dying and their top 5 regrets. They were as follows:

1) I wish I pursued my dreams and aspirations, and not the life others expected of me.

2) I wish I didn’t work so hard.

3) I wish I had the courage to express my feelings and speak my mind.

4) I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

5) I wish I had let myself be happier.

Along these lines, in her new Netflix show, Brene Brown poses the compelling question, “What if we get to the end of our days and wonder…what if I had shown up?”

So, that at the end of your days will you be content with your life and the relationships you forged?

Consider this question: if your best friend/family member was interviewed and asked, “Do you know your friend’s greatest accomplishment? Happiest moment? Greatest sadness? Yearnings?” Could your best friend answer those questions?

For the last 30 years, this weekend has been dedicated to fostering conversations with others that support you in achieving authenticity in your life with friends and loved ones.
