Chris and Elza Healthcare celebrates Black History Month and the achievements of Dr. Mae Jemison who became the first Black woman astronaut to go into space in 1992. Dr. Jemison joined the Peace Corps in 1983 and later joined her knowledge of satellite telecommunications with her knowledge of healthcare in developing countries to develop her own telecommunications systems to improve healthcare delivery in developing countries.

Chris and Elza Healthcare celebrates Black History Month and the achievements of Dr. Jocelyn Elders who went on to become the first board-certified pediatric endocrinologist in the state of Arkansas in 1978 after earning her medical degree. Dr. Elders served as the head of the Arkansas Department of Health under then governor Bill Clinton. When Clinton became president in 1993, he appointed Elders as Surgeon General, the first Black American and second woman to hold that post.

Chris and Elza Healthcare celebrates Black History Month and the achievements of Dr. Charles Drew who came up with innovative ways to store blood plasma in blood banks. Dr. Drew became the director of the first blood bank project in Britain during World War II and helped save thousands of lives as he oversaw the successful collection of 14,500 pints of vital plasma for British residents. He also established the American Red Cross blood bank and served as its director starting in 1941, earning the nickname “father of the blood bank” after creating the first “bloodmobile,” a mobile blood donation truck with a refrigerator.

National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) is an opportunity to address the disproportionate impact HIV/AIDS continues to have on the Black community, end HIV transmission, increase support for those living with the virus, and reduce stigma.

Chris and Elza Healthcare stands with organizations like the Health Council of Southeast Florida to provide FREE HIV testing and other services to help stem the spread of the HIV/AIDS virus.
