Anne of the Patawomeck: Wife of 1. William Redmond & 2. Richard Bryant

Richard devised his last will & testament 05 Apr 1703 in Stafford County, Virginia naming wife, Anne, stepson, William Redmond & 6 Bryant children, including daughter, Elizabeth, who was already married to Richard Elkins & was likely the eldest Bryant child.

Henry Meese: Suspected father of Anne by a daughter of Wahanganoche, 🪶 Weroance (Chief).

There was a Henry Meese in Virginia as early as 1666 per original documentation. He had extensive properties in Virginia by the time of his death between Feb 1681 & Apr 1682 in London, England.
He devised his will in London, 12 Feb 1681 & probate was Apr 1682. His widow, Ann(e) had an attorney representing her & children in the Virginia estate. She was referred to as Ann Meese of London, widow of Henry Meese, Merchant.

Those 4 children were named in Henry's will, all underage. Henry, John, Anne, & Frames.
I located the Birth & Christenings; St Katherine Cree, City of London, London, England
Anne b. 28 Apr 1676 c. 02 May 1676
Henry b. 10 May 1678 c. 16 May 1678
Frances b. 1679 c. 14 Aug 1679
John b. 1681 c. 20 Oct 1681

It would appear Henry returned to England & married Ann(e) prior to 1676 & died there.

As you can see, Henry's daughter Anne was NOT Patawomeck.
Now could it be possible Henry sired other children in Virginia earlier? Sure, but more study is needed. Were there 2 Henry Meese's in Virginia?

Mr. Henry Meese left records in Old Rappahannock, York, & Stafford Counties in Virginia as early as 1666. He was referred to as Merchant of London. He was appointed Lt. Col, a member of the Virginia Council & House of Burgesses.

NEW TODAY! There is no better strategy than using the combination of genealogy research tools offered by FamilySearch and Ancestry together. https://youtu.be/0uvLTEOy9oY&list=UULFcvpi8XvOScBogIxmarmADw
The combination of these two websites alone I estimate to have about 90% of the records that are available online. Remember, not all records are online, so in person research can still be a plus. In this video, I’ll explore the best of both websites to help you build your family tree.

THE POWELL FAMILIES OF VIRGINIA AND THE SOUTH

Be careful with this book & study as many original documents as can be located. This book has many errors. I have at least 3 POWELL lines thus far. 2 are definitely from Isle of Wight County, Virginia, but I'm becoming confident that the 3rd descends from the Norfolk County, Virginie line. All 3 of mine ended up in Northampton County, North Carolina.

I do like that they listed some sources. Although I only pay attention to original document sources, not other book sources.

However, I think they copied a lot from others &/or mis-interpreted some info or just plain speculated.

Not intending to insult anyone, I just prefer to do my own study & be as thorough as possible.

Looking for descendants of William Newsom & Anne Sheppard of Surry County, Virginia. Specifically, those that settled in Isle of Wight & Southampton Counties, Virginia.

Especially from their sons, John & Thomas who married Sarah & Elizabeth Crafford, daughters of Robert Crafford & Elizabeth Carter of Surry County, Virginia.

On April 5, 1919, the Camp Bragg Flying Field was renamed in memory of First Lieutenant Harley Halbert Pope, the first officer assigned to the post. Pope had been killed when the Curtiss JN-4 Jenny he was flying crashed into the Cape Fear River earlier that year.

In the early years, activity around Pope Field was so slow that pilots were asked to buzz the area to scare away grazing deer before landing. In the 1920s the primary use of the facility was for observation and balloon and bombing training. A major expansion occurred in the 1930s with a runway extension, installation of lighting, and construction of a new headquarters building and two hangars. During World War II the field was used primarily for troop carrier training. Throughout these years Pope Field remained under the auspices of the Army. After the Army Air Force became a separate branch of the military in 1947, Pope became a base.

Troops from Pope have been deployed in many major conflicts including the Vietnam, Gulf, and Iraq Wars as well as military actions taken in the Congo, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Panama, and Somalia. In 2011, Pope Air Force Base was absorbed into Fort Bragg (now named Fort Liberty), once again becoming Pope Field.

On this date in Murfreesboro history, February 17, 1780, Hardy Murfree married Sally Brickell, daughter of Colonel Matthias Brickell, the former sherriff and legislator. On December 21, 1756, Commissioners Richard Caswell and Francis Brown inspected the recently completed Fort Dobbs. Their report to the assembly of the colony described “A good and Substantial Building” that was 53 feet by 40 feet, with oak pillars supporting the structure, which rose almost 25 feet. Soldiers were able to simultaneously fire up to one hundred muskets from the walls of the fort, making Fort Dobbs an imposing headquarters on the Carolina frontier.
Western expansion in North Carolina forced England to protect colonists in the wilderness. To that end, the provincial assembly approved 1,000 pounds in March 1756 for the construction of a defensive fortress. Governor Arthur Dobbs chose a location in present-day Iredell County and charged Col. Hugh Waddell and his frontier company of 50 men with protecting both the fort and colonists’ trading rights with Indians against the encroaching French. It was the only permanent frontier provincial fort in the colony of North Carolina.
Fort Dobbs, now one of North Carolina’s 27 state historic sites, is the only one dedicated to the French and Indian War (1754-1763), the North American chapter of the broader Seven Years War between England and France.
