Today, we remember Ryan White, whose courage and resilience brought national attention to HIV/AIDS in children and profoundly impacted hemophilia care. After contracting HIV through contaminated blood products, his story highlighted the urgent need for safer treatments and stronger protections for patients. Ryan’s advocacy transformed treatment protocols, patient education, and community awareness, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to save lives. We honor his legacy with a candlelight tribute, remembering the lives he touched and the change he inspired.

While hemophilia is often associated with royal history, Von Willebrand Disease has a history of its own.

In 1926, Finnish physician Dr. Erik von Willebrand first described the condition while studying a family with unusual bleeding patterns. His work helped identify what we now know as Von Willebrand Disease, the most common inherited bleeding disorder.

Nearly a century later, VWD affects millions worldwide, yet many people remain undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for years. Understanding the history of bleeding disorders reminds us how far research, diagnosis, and treatment have come and why continued awareness is still essential today. 🩸

Hemophilia is often called the Royal Disease, so technically… you could say you are royal 👑
The nickname comes from history. Hemophilia appeared in European royal families and was passed down through generations. Today, we know hemophilia is a genetic bleeding disorder that affects the body’s ability to clot properly and can impact people of all backgrounds, not just royalty. While it has a royal past, modern treatment and education help people with hemophilia live full and active lives. Knowledge is powerful and that is something worth crowning 💙
