A Tree Planted is featured in this ProPublica article regarding the unfair tactics used by United Healthcare/Optum when insuring mental health services.
At A Tree Planted, we spend time and energy advocating for fair insurance practices so those who need care can access it and mental health clinicians can be compensated for their work. Unfair practices harm us all.

United used an algorithm system to identify patients who it determined were getting too much therapy and then limited coverage. It was deemed illegal in three states, but similar practices persist due to a patchwork of regulation.

We need to talk about mental health in Southwest Virginia.

Many people in our area experience poverty, addiction, PTSD, and more. We’ve heard the normal objections, but in order to understand these issues, we must dig a little deeper.
