DO NOT let the narrative fool you.

Protections for quarries, asphalt plants, and concrete plants in Allen County are LIMITED and FRAGMENTED.

They primarily come from local zoning/land-use approvals and state environmental permitting through the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) which as we know does NOT rank high for protecting our environment.

There are NO 👎 strong, automatic buffers or comprehensive community protections built into the rules that guarantee minimal impacts on nearby homes, schools, or hospitals.

🟥 Will berms really stay green? No.🟥

Although often shown as “green space” on quarry site maps, berms are typically designated as “overburden storage” or “vegetated berm/overburden areas”—meaning they are planned locations for placing stripped soil and rock removed from the quarry pit.
-

These berms are constructed from compacted soil and rock, shaped into steep, engineered slopes, and repeatedly reworked as quarrying progresses. As a result, they function as industrial infrastructure, not preserved open space, parkland, or natural habitat.

MYTH: Home values may increase 41% per The Heritage Group/US Aggregates.

FACT: From 30-years of real estate experience:
• Buyer traffic to nearby homes will drop
• Listings will sit on the market longer than competing homes in other parts of southwest Fort Wayne
• Price reductions will become necessary to attract interest
• Deals will fall through during inspection or due diligence once buyers learn more about the surrounding use
• Agents will begin directing buyers away from the area altogether

MYTH: Silica dust won’t be an issue.

FACT: THG failed by mentioning an OLD standard which only focuses on workers, not the community.

Then this is released. Indiana ranks as one of the worst for clean air.

Great….let’s just build a toxic asphalt/concrete plants and quarry next to medical facilities and a school.
