It was truly an honor to nominate and be a part of such a meaningful ceremony for Ted.

To Affinity Hospice — we sincerely appreciate your unwavering dedication and the compassionate, collaborative care you provide 24/7 to our residents, staff, and families. What some may see as the end, we see as an opportunity to make a profound and lasting impact in the final days, weeks, months, or even years of life.

Congratulations, Ted, on this well-deserved recognition. Your hard work and dedication make a difference every single day.

🎉 A Century of Life, Legacy, and Love at Cardinal Senior Living 🎉

Today, our Cardinal Senior Living family had the joy and honor of celebrating a truly remarkable milestone — the 100th birthday of one of our beloved residents Frank. Reaching a century of life is extraordinary on its own, but hearing his son Andy share stories from his incredible journey made the day even more special.

Andy painted a beautiful picture of a life filled with resilience, purpose, and heart — the kind of life that inspires everyone lucky enough to hear about it. Frank was born in Huddersfield England in 1926. At age 18 he taught electronics in the Royal Air Force. He worked for English Electric, the company that built the Lightning Fighter Jet – England’s first supersonic fighter. It was so fast it broke the sound barrier on its first flight by accident! He moved to the US in 1962 and worked for General Electric, living in Marblehead Mass and Utica NY. He’s very proud to have lived in retirement longer than he worked for GE! At age 68, he sailed from Massachusetts to Virginia Beach on a square-rigged ship called the HMS Rose as part of the crew. The trip took a week. The ship offered a trip sailing across the Atlantic, and his son jokingly told him he wouldn’t be a real sailor unless he did it – so he did! He helped crew the ship across the Atlantic at age 70! The trip took a month, and the crew worked in shifts around the clock. When he retired, he and his wife lived in Port Ludlow Washington for 20 years until coming back to the East Coast to be closer to family. What an incredible life!

Because Frank is a citizen of both England and the USA, he also received birthday cards from King Charles and Queen Camilla and from the White House.

Here’s to 100 years of memories — and to the joy of celebrating many more moments together. ❤️

🎉 March Birthday Celebration Fun! 🎉

Today was one of those days that just fills your heart. We celebrated our monthly birthdays with a lively party, and our young friend Corbin made it extra special. He and his wonderful family brought cupcakes and decorations to share with everyone since he was also celebrating his birthday. We were honored he wanted to spend his birthday with us. The smiles they created were absolutely priceless.

After enjoying the treats and festive atmosphere, we jumped right into a few rounds of bingo. Thanks to a generous community member who donated the most adorable stuffed prizes, everyone walked away with some truly delightful treasures.

Moments like these remind us how meaningful it is when generations come together, when families share their kindness, and when our residents get to enjoy simple joys surrounded by friends. Here’s to more celebrations, more laughter, and more days just like this one.

🌸 Spring is in the Air at Our Community 🌸

Today our residents spent the afternoon painting mason jar vases, each one as unique and full of personality as the hands that created them. Soft pastels, cheerful colors, and plenty of smiles filled the room as everyone got into the spirit of the season.

Once the jars were dry, we arranged beautiful silk flowers to brighten up our spaces for the first day of spring. Watching the residents choose their favorite blooms and design their own arrangements was such a sweet reminder of how creativity brings people together. What a lovely way to welcome spring. 🌼✨

Good morning friends of Cardinal Senior Living! We are on a mission — a 50‑state egg quest. Yes, you read that right. We’re trying to collect a plastic or paper decorated egg from every U.S. state, and we need your help to make it happen.

If you’re willing to send an egg from your state we would greatly appreciate it. We can’t wait to share a full basket of decorated eggs with our residents. Let’s make this egg‑cellent project come to life! The information is below. Feel free to send us a message or call 540-772-7181 and ask for our Activity Director Wendy, with any questions. Feel free to share this post. Thank you so much for your help!

☘️💚 Cardinal Senior Living at the Roanoke St. Patrick’s Day Parade! 💚☘️
What a joyful morning for our Cardinal Senior Living family. Our residents bundled up, put on their green, and joined the Roanoke city St. Patrick’s Day parade — and the smiles said it all.

Our residents enjoyed waving to the crowd, laughing together, and soaking in the celebration. We’re grateful for every cheer and every shared moment along the route. Our residents brought so much spirit — and they loved every minute of it.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make it a success! Here’s to making memories, celebrating together, and keeping the joy going all year long. ☘️💚

We had such a meaningful and joy‑filled afternoon today. Chaplain Clark from Affinity Care of Virginia stopped by to lead us in a Bible study on Psalm 23, reminding us of the comfort, guidance, and peace found in those familiar words. It was a beautiful time of reflection and connection.

Afterward, we shifted into craft time and kept the theme going by making our own little sheep—each one unique and full of personality. We wrapped up by painting bright green shamrocks, adding just a touch of glitter for some extra sparkle.

It was a wonderful blend of faith, creativity, and fellowship, and we’re already looking forward to his next visit.

🍀 St. Paddy’s Day came early thanks to Amber from ACG Hospice!

Amber brightened our morning in the best way—showing up with goodies, cheer, and that contagious St. Patrick’s Day spirit. It’s amazing how a little kindness (and a few festive treats) can lift the whole room.

We’re so grateful for the joy she brings every time she walks through the door. Thank you, Amber, for making today so much fun and a lot more green. 💚✨

🎉 Welcome Home, New Residents! 🎉
We had such a wonderful time hosting our New Resident Social here at Cardinal Senior Living. It was a joy to gather together, introduce ourselves, and we learned a little bit about where we each grew up. Those simple stories sparked great conversations and helped our new residents as well as current residents, start building new connections.

Of course, no celebration is complete without something sweet. We enjoyed delicious cake and ice cream while getting to know one another, and the room was filled with smiles, laughter, and that special sense of community we’re so proud of.

Here’s to new neighbors, new friendships, and many more moments like this. We’re so glad you’re here! Thank you to Gail, one of our resident ambassadors for helping us put it all together and have a great time!

🍀 A Huge Thank You to Affinity Care of Virginia! 🍀

We had the sweetest afternoon—Ted and Kim from Affinity stopped by to make Shamrock Shakes for everyone, and they absolutely made our afternoon. They brought so much joy, kindness, and energy, and the residents had a blast.

Even better, they generously donated supplies for our new resident social tomorrow, helping us kick off the celebration in the best way possible. Their support means more than they know, and we’re so grateful for their partnership and the love they show our community.

Here’s to good people, good treats, and great festivities!

💚✨

Our community has been deeply blessed by the dedication of our volunteer Pastor Carr. His commitment to serving our residents—whether through Sunday messages, personal encouragement, or simply showing up when someone needed a listening ear—has made a lasting impact on all of us. His presence has strengthened our sense of togetherness, and we are truly grateful for the time, energy, and love he has poured into our community. He recently has had to step down due to health concerns.

As we look ahead, we want to continue offering Sunday services for those who enjoy gathering for worship, reflection, and fellowship. If you know of a pastor who may be interested in joining us on Sundays—whether regularly or occasionally—we would love to connect. Please reach out with any recommendations to our Activities DIrector, Wendy at wjohnston@cardinalsenior.com or by calling us here at 540-772-7181.

Thank you again, Pastor Carr, for everything you’ve done. Your service has been a gift to our community, and your influence will continue to be felt for years to come.
