Together with our community partners and donors, we help ensure every child receives the care they need, close to home. 💛 Money raised by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) stays in our community and helps save and improve the lives of sick and injured children treated at Carilion Children’s. CMN Hospital’s mission is to ensure our community’s children have local access to the be

st medical care available by supporting:

• Child-focused medical services by physicians trained to treat children.

• Specialized life-saving equipment for children’s smaller sizes - from the premature
infant weighing 2 pounds, to the toddler and teenager.

• Services to help children cope with their illness, hospitalization & treatments –
Child Life Specialists, playrooms, emotional support, and education.

• Emergency transportation 24/7, by ambulance and helicopter, of critically ill &
injured children from 26 rural hospitals to Carilion Clinic Children’s Hospital. Carilion Children’s is the only not-for-profit hospital in Southwest Virginia dedicated to serving all children regardless of their insurance coverage or family’s ability to pay. With the support of CMN Hospitals, each year Carilion Children’s cares for over 2,200 hospitalized children, completes 25,000 outpatient visits at its 17 specialty clinics, and provides millions of dollars in uncompensated health care services.

Born at 38 weeks via an emergency footling breech delivery, Madi entered the world silently with an Apgar score of 0 and was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Carilion Children's

Doctors placed her on a cooling bed to slow brain and organ damage, and she spent 31 days fighting for her life. When discharged, she went home with a G-tube for feeding. Just 10 days later, Madi returned in critical condition. Emergency surgery revealed a malrotation with volvulus, and she was septic. During her hospitalization, she endured 4 surgeries, including the removal of half her small intestine.

In total, Madi spent 144 days at Carilion Children’s, where her care team stood beside her family through every setback and victory. Discharged at 6 months old, Madi has needed only two hospital visits since. Now 4, her story is one of resilience and the life-saving care of Carilion Children’s.

Thanks to donations, Children’s Miracle Network helps hospitals provide life-saving care, innovative treatments, and vital equipment, giving kids like Madi the chance to grow up strong and chase their dreams.

🐻🩺 A little play can make a big difference.

Our 3rd Annual Teddy Bear Clinic, hosted by Carilion Children's Child Life Department and Children’s Miracle Network, gave kids the chance to explore medical equipment in a fun, low-pressure setting, helping ease fears about future doctor visits.

Through hands-on activities, our Child Life specialists guided children as they learned about the human body and what to expect in a healthcare environment!

Madison Whitbeck, Miss Virginia 2025, and Aryana Guest, Miss Virginia’s Teen 2025, recently visited the NICU, PICU, and pediatric floor at Carilion Children’s to spread smiles and creativity.

In honor of Youth Arts Month, they also donated arts and craft supplies for the pediatric floor, giving patients and families a fun, creative outlet during their time in the hospital.

We are so grateful for their generosity and for taking the time to brighten the day for the children and families we serve.
