This month's meeting of the Herb Society of Southwestern Virginia will be on Thursday, April 27, at 7:00pm, at Christ Lutheran Church on the corner of Brandon and Grandin Roads. Our speaker will be Dr. Rebecca Ross. Rebecca is one of our own members who will be speaking to us about Wildflowers of the Blue Ridge. Among her many achievements, Rebecca has a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from U.Va., a master’s from U.Va., and a doctorate in Biology and Science Ed. from Virginia Tech. She has taken post-graduate courses in genetics and biology from Princeton University, U. of Rochester Medical School, U. of Kansas Medical School, N.C. State, U.Va., and Virginia Tech. She also studied medicinal plants at Chaminade University in Hawaii. She has taught Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Human Diseases, Nutrition, and Molecular Biology classes--most recently for 8 years at Ferrum College, and before that at Radford University, Virginia Western Community College, Cave Spring High School, and University of Virginia.

This month’s meeting will be Thursday, March 23, 7 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church on the corner of Brandon and Grandin Roads. Our speakers this month are Sissy Logan and Carol Whiteside, long time members of the Roanoke Valley Bird Club. Their topic will be Birding 101.

This month’s meeting will be Thursday, October 27, 2022, 7 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church on the corner of Brandon and Grandin Roads. Our speaker this month is Sarah Melendy with Mountain Thyme Honey & Gifts in Troutville, Virginia. She will speak to us on using honey with herbs. She will also have some of her products available for sale. After she started beekeeping and selling her honey, she soon realized that honey sells out quickly. So she diversified and found other things to sell made with her honey.

The Herb Society of SW VA will hold it's monthly meeting on September 22 at 7 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Roanoke. Our speaker this month is Sharon Burnham with GardenVitals, Roanoke, Virginia. She will talk to us on Landscaping with Natives. Visitors are welcome to attend.

Our speaker this month is Ellen Reynolds of Beagle Ridge Herb Farm in Wytheville, Virginia. Ellen will speak to us on Lavender Cocktails and Mocktails. Refreshments will be served. Guest are welcome.

The Herb Society of Southwestern Virginia's meeting this month will take place on June 23, 2022 at 7 p.m. Our speaker this month is Lara Miller of Floyd, Virginia. She will speak to us on Fermenting Weeds & Plants as Fertilizer. Visitors are welcome.

This month’s meeting will take place on May 26, 2022 at 7 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Roanoke. Our speaker this month is Ian Caton of Wood Thrust Native Plant Nursery in Floyd, Virginia. The nursery is dedicated to discovering, growing, and promoting rare and unusual plants that are native to the Appalachian region. Ian will give us an introduction to native plants that are also useful herbs. Plants will be available for sale.

The Herb Siciety of Southwestern Virginia invites you to our Annual Herb Auction which will be held on Thursday, December 2nd at 6:30 pm at Christ Lutheran Church.

We have some wonderful offerings for you to choose from. If you have a donation just bring it with you.

Due to COVID we are doing a silent auction format as well as items that are priced. There will be refreshments that are packaged in individual bags.

Our speaker will be Lorna Van Ostrand from Nick of Thyme Bakery. Lorna will give us some ideas for Holiday Baking.

The church does require us wearing masks so plan accordingly.

Guests are welcome. Hope to see there!

Our Annual Herb Auction will take place Thursday, December 2nd at 6:30 pm at Christ Lutheran Church on the corner of Brandon Avenue and Grandin Road in Roanoke, Virginia. We will have silent auction items and white elephant items available. Everyone is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be available. Masks are required.

This month’s meeting will take place Thursday, September 23 at 7 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church. Our speakers will be Ed and Maya Skopal, owners of I-TAL Acres, a medicinal plant farm and apothecary in Floyd County, Virginia. They will talk about how they make the salves, tinctures, and other items they sell and tell us about their farm.

NOTE: Due to an increase in COVID cases, social distancing and mask are required. As the hall we meet in is spacious, we can space chairs appropriately. There will be no refreshments. We encourage everyone to attend.
