CareForward is hosting a series of collaborative conversations with local faith communities across Grayson, Russell, Smyth, and Washington Counties to explore how we can work together to meet needs in our community through timely, compassionate action.

Breaking Announcement: Thanks to a grant from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services Awards Grant to Piedmont Community Services, we’re expanding access to our community support platform in the counties of Franklin, Henry, Patrick and the City of Martinsville!

That means more neighbors will be connected with volunteers and resources for urgent needs — from rides to appointments, to accessibility improvements, to helping isolated individuals feel supported.

Today, we officially launched CareForward across Grayson, Russell, Smyth, and Washington Counties — bringing neighbors, volunteers, and partners together to strengthen the fabric of our communities.

A heartfelt thank you to all who attended and to every organization helping us move care forward. We’re especially grateful to the Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia, whose generosity made this expansion possible!

Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected community where no one faces hardship alone.

The Story:
In our community, an elderly woman, kind, resilient, and striving to maintain her independence, is facing a challenge that many of us might take for granted: the ability to wash her clothes and bedding at home.

Due to personal and financial challenges, she no longer has a functioning washing machine in her home—creating a significant barrier to maintaining basic hygiene and cleanliness.

For this individual, the absence of a working washing machine is more than an inconvenience. It affects her ability to care for herself and maintain clean clothes and bedding—essentials for both health and self-esteem. Without this basic household appliance, she is at increased risk of health complications, social withdrawal, and misunderstanding from others due to appearance or scent.

The Need:
A new or gently used washing machine or financial contributions toward the purchase of a unit (if a used one is not available)

Volunteer assistance with delivery and installation

This individual has worked hard to live independently. Your donation—whether an appliance, your time, or a financial gift—can help her maintain her dignity and continue to engage with her community. Thank you for being part of the solution and for demonstrating the true power of neighbors helping neighbors.
