Strength starts with control. During the Transition Period, prevent future injuries by focusing on mobility, stability and form; not max lifts. This is where you retrain movement patterns and joint alignment through slow corrective exercises, foundational core, and slow single-limb exercises.
Start with general strength workouts 2-3x per week. Spend the 1st half of your workout on warming up, stretching and turning on your core. Then move into large movement patterns. Focus on your breath in slow, single limb exercises. Use a weight that you can complete 10 reps with good form, but no more than 15.

Training Block 2: Building the Engine and The Strength to Support It.

Those of you following along know that I started transitioning into my current 6 month training cycle back in late October. In December's Block 2, things started to *quietly* level up.

The Early Base Period Endurance phase gently increases the volume of easy aerobic training. No intensity spikes. No hero workouts. Just steady, sustainable movement that strengthens your aerobic engine and sets the foundation for everything that comes next.

While your aerobic volume grows, we also continue building stability and structural strength with "Strength Endurance Training" in the gym. This builds the kind of strength that supports long days, big efforts, and real‑life demands.

Why this matters: When you pair easy aerobic volume with strength endurance, you create a body that’s: More resilient, More efficient, Better prepared for higher training loads and Less prone to overuse issues This is the phase where you quietly become unstoppable.

If you’re training for a season of hiking, running, biking, or just wanting to feel stronger in your everyday life, Block 2 is where the groundwork gets real.

Before you chase peak performance, rebuild your metabolic base. The Transition Period sets the stage for sustainable gains and fewer plateaus by building an aerobic foundation. Try easy aerobic activity 3-4 days per week. It should be light and fun! Try a neighborhood walk, greenway bike ride, living room dance party or ask about your gyms cardio equipment. You should build up a light sweat, but still be able to easily converse in full paragraphs. Ideally, you should be able to breath through only your nose. Build up to at least 2, 30 min sessions and one long 60 min session per week. Do less if you can't maintain an easy breathe or recover well. Follow-up your workout with a nutrient rich meal and a recovery stretch or massage.
