This year, Cayden Shipley and the American Heart Association are teaming up to advocate for House Bill 1695 and Senate Bill 817, which would require all Virginia public schools to have a cardiac emergency response plan in place.

Even more devastating is knowing that trained staff and life-saving equipment like AEDs were available but not used in time. This tragedy is a stark reminder that knowing what to do in an emergency isn’t enough—action is what saves lives. It takes courage to step up, but every second counts. Let’s honor her memory by committing to be prepared, act quickly, and use the tools and skills we have to make a difference when it matters most. Lives depend on it.
