Hollins Communications Research Institute (HCRI) is a nonprofit center dedicated to researching stuttering, developing stuttering treatment innovations, and providing life-changing stuttering therapy. in 1972 to investigate stuttering using scientific methods and to develop new treatment approaches. Researchers at Virginia-based HCRI, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, invented the concept of behavioral stuttering therapy. HCRI has become an international leader in stuttering research and treatment innovation. Participants work with specially trained clinicians and learn how to retrain speech muscles to produce fluent speech. In addition, HCRI offers a comprehensive package of post-therapy support to help people who stutter maintain fluency for the long term. HCRI’s proprietary therapy has been developed in-house by research scientists who are experts in the investigation and treatment of stuttering. Team members have tested and retested HCRI’s therapy system with thousands of people who stutter. This has led to exciting new discoveries, ongoing therapy refinements, and the creation of new treatment tools that enhance fluency outcomes. HCRI scientists have also created new ways to use technology in therapy that make the learning of lasting fluency skills straightforward and practical.
