LOSING DAYLIGHT AS WE MOVE TOWARD WINTER
β’ Right now, Virginians are seeing the sun about 2 minutes less each day.
β’ Here are the sunrise/sunset times plus daylight duration for today, one week away, one month and three months ahead.
β’ The decreasing sunlight also causes trees to reduce chlorophyll production, and leaves gradually lose their green color. Cooler temperatures also spur leaf change.
β’ As a reminder, Daylight Saving Time now ends in November, on the first Sunday morning after Halloween. The current sunrise/sunset times on this chart are in Daylight Saving Time, while December is Standard Time.
β’ The amount of sunshine lessens each day until the first day of Winter in December. You are probably noticing shadows becoming longer too. The sun is lower in the sky compared to late spring/early summer months-- the longest shadows exist on the first days of winter!
β’ While the weather might not feel like it with mid 80s this weekend, weβre moving toward the fall season. I doubt weβll see 90s in Central, SW or Southside Virginia again this year!
