Gospel Reflection: 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Gospel According to Luke 10:38-42Jesus entered a villagewhere a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.She had a sister named Marywho sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said,"Lord, do you not carethat my sister has left me...

Marian Receptivity

We cannot received with clenched hands. I'm not sure where I heard this metaphor, but I have a feeling it was from Christopher West's work on Theology of the Body. Essentially, it states that we cannot receive God's gifts for our life if we are grasping at them or if we are holding onto past attachm...

Behold Your Mother!

I don't know where I would be in my life without Our Blessed Mother. For many Catholics, Mary is not just the Mother of Jesus, she is the bearer of many titles, the Queen of Heaven and the immaculate conception to name a few. I was praying the other night, and I came to tears of gratitude just think...

Tearing Down the Veil

I'm not exactly sure where it came from, but there seems to be this sense of mystery in psychotherapy that is often perpetuated in media that has unfortunately spread to the masses. For first-time clients or clients who are misinformed, there seems to be this thought that a therapist will say the rig...

Gospel Reflection: 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Gospel According to Luke (10:25-37)There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test Jesus and said,"Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law?How do you read it?"He said in reply,"You shall love the Lord, your God,with all your heart,with....

Many counseling programs at Catholic universities have been silently disregarding the church's teaching on the human person which have unfortunately led to Christian counselors having to compromise on their religious convictions.

The recent exposé published in the Wall Street Journal on whistleblower Naomi Best, a counseling student, shows an example of how bad it has gotten.

Attached is great article by Dr. Hildebrand (one of my prior theology professors at FUS) and Dr. Jungers (the dean of the School of Professional Programs). It exemplifies exactly what is happening in higher Catholic Education and what quality Catholic counseling should look like.

To Catholic client and clinician alike, I encourage you to take a read and reflect on what is being said.

Pax et bonum.

The Daily Wire recently featured the shocking and sad story of Naomi Epps Best’s struggle for toleration in a graduate marriage and family therapy program at Santa Clara University.Best describes outrageous violations of privacy, decency, and traditional religious values — which are made all the...

Rest in His Presence

As the week comes to an end and we prepare for the Sabbath, I find that its good to practice just being. To just be in His presence and find comfort in recognizing that you are the Father's beloved child. No concerns about the future, not caring to dwell in the past. Just in the here and now recogni...

Next year the Supreme Court will be ruling on Chiles VS. Salazar which brings to attention the question of free speech for psychotherapists in treatment and the banning of "conversion therapies."

The case does not call into question the patient's right to refuse consent to certain forms of treatment but the right of the therapist to discuss with clients treatment options and modalities that have been shown to reduce unwanted same-sex attraction.

It's not coercion to reduce same-sex attractions, but an invitation to reduce unwanted same-sex attraction.

This is wonderful news for the Catholic faithful! As someone whose has had clients who have unwanted same-sex attraction, this can be an incredible change in the tide for treatment options for them. Thanks be to God!

See below for an interview of Dr. Nicolosi Jr. the creator of Reintegrative Therapy, an Evidence Based Practice that is focused on trauma though as a byproduct has shown to reduce same-sex attraction in men.

Can sexual attraction shift? Can we rewire how past trauma affects us?Dr. Joseph Nicolosi Jr. explores these questions through Reintegrative Therapy—a trauma...

Call to Communion

When I see the division within the Catholic Church, I can't help but be saddened by what I see. I also happen to think about what a laugh Satan is having. On the macro scale, there is division between the Tridentine Mass Catholics and the Novus Ordo Catholics, those who classify themselves as Libera...

Be Held, Behold

I've been thinking a lot about the reform that needs to be made within the Catholic counseling sphere. The changes that need to be made in order to effect change on a grander and legal level. This past week, the U.S. Supreme Court made a ruling on the United States vs. Skrmetti case in favor of bann...

A letter to mental health professionals.

For the past six months or so, God has been calling me to greater surrender with my career. Since graduating from grad school in 2017, I've grown accustomed to the fact that there will be many transitions within my career, though the current transition is one that I did not anticipate would happen s...
