Spring is here, and with it comes the dreaded allergy season. If you are prone to spring allergies, you may notice they not only affect your nose, but your hearing as well.

1. Muffled or Plugged Hearing
Allergies cause inflammation in the Eustachian tube, the tiny passage that connects your middle ear to the back of your throat. When it swells, you get that familiar "underwater" feeling.
2. Itchy Ear Canals
The same histamine response that makes your eyes itch can affect the skin inside your ears. Resist the urge to reach for a cotton swab!
3. Ringing or Tinnitus Flare-Ups
Increased pressure and fluid in the ear can aggravate tinnitus, making ringing or buzzing sounds worse during peak allergy months.
4. Dizziness or Balance Issues
Fluid buildup in the inner ear can throw off your balance and leave you feeling dizzy or unsteady.
5. Temporary Hearing Loss
All of the above can add up to a temporary dip in your hearing ability. The good news? It's usually reversible once allergies are treated.

If your hearing feels muffled this spring, it might not just be allergies. Come in for a quick check!

🦻 April is Deaf History Month, and it's a time worth acknowledging.

Deaf History Month commemorates some of the most important milestones in Deaf and hard-of-hearing history, including the founding of Gallaudet University in 1864, the establishment of the first permanent school for the Deaf in America in 1817, and the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990.

At Hearing Health Associates, we believe everyone deserves to experience the world of sound fully and comfortably, whatever that looks like for them. Whether you're navigating age-related hearing loss, have worn hearing aids for years, or are just starting to notice changes in your hearing, your journey matters.

This month, we honor the generations of people who fought to make hearing health more accessible, more understood, and less stigmatized, so that today, more people than ever have options, resources, and support.

📅 If you or someone you love has been putting off a hearing evaluation, this is a great reminder that help is closer than you think.

Most people know that hearing loss can make conversations harder and everyday life more frustrating. What is talked about less is how untreated hearing loss affects the brain and, over time, mental health.

When hearing loss goes untreated, our ears’ hearing nerves stop sending clear signals to our brain. Without consistent input, the brain gradually loses its ability to recognize and interpret familiar sounds. The longer someone waits to seek treatment, the more those sounds can fade from memory.

In simple terms, the brain begins to forget what everyday sounds are supposed to sound like.

Hearing health affects more than just your ears.👂

It plays an important role in brain function, balance, social connection, and mental health. When hearing changes go untreated, the brain works harder, conversations become more challenging, and people may begin to withdraw. Caring for your hearing supports your whole well-being.
