Since 1988, World AIDS Day is a global reminder of the ongoing impact of HIV and AIDS. Millions of people worldwide are living with HIV, but thanks to medical progress, those diagnosed with HIV can live long, healthy, and fulfilling lives.

HIV is treatable, preventable is possible, and awareness matters. When we talk about it, we help create a world where access to testing, care, and compassion is the standard.

Your annual physical could catch a serious condition before you ever feel a symptom. Conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even some cancers often have no early warning signs. But routine screenings during a physical can detect them early, when they’re most treatable.

Your check-up also gives your doctor a chance to look at the whole picture: your medications, mental health, sleep, stress and lifestyle goals. A quick visit today can help prevent a major issue tomorrow. Conemaugh Nason Medical Center recently hosted a basket raffle in support of the Amber Port Scholarship. The event raised over $2,000 for nursing scholarships for employees at Conemaugh Nason to further their education.

Amber Port was a beloved member of the Conemaugh Nason team and proudly served as the Outpatient Surgery Unit and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit Supervisor until her passing in 2020. She was enrolled at Mount Aloysius College, furthering her nursing education and was a strong advocate for education.

The Conemaugh Nason team honored Amber and her loved ones by sporting their Su***de Awareness t-shirts this week. Thank you to all who participated in the basket raffle and your continued support to keep Amber's legacy alive and well at Conemaugh Nason!

This Saturday, November 8, is National Lung Screening Day. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women, but when found early, it is far more treatable. Screening with a low-dose CT (LDCT) can reduce the risk of dying from lung cancer by up to 20 percent.

This National Lung Screening Day, we are raising awareness about the power of early detection. If you are between 50 and 80 years old, currently smoke, or have quit within the past 15 years, you may qualify for a low-dose CT lung screening at Conemaugh Health System.

Do not wait for symptoms. Talk to your healthcare provider today about whether a lung screening is right for you. Learn more about lung health and screening options at Conemaugh.org/Lung
