What can you expect from your pelvic floor PT evaluation? πŸ‘‡

As awareness of pelvic floor PT is on the rise, many people are realizing they could benefit and many doctors are recognizing and referring their patients. I want to break down barriers to making that initial appointment. What can I expect? Will it be painful?

The goal of pelvic floor physical therapy is to relieve pain and increase function. We will assess your squat, single-leg squat, balance, hip/low back/ankle mobility, and strength. We will look at your core from many angles including a consensual internal pelvic floor exam. The exam should not be painful and does not take long. We do not use any devices or speculums, just a gloved finger. We'll check for pelvic floor strength, flexibility, trigger points, and function.

Once we have the full picture we come up with a plan for you to meet your goals! If you are still hesitant, call or email to speak to a pelvic floor PT today.

If you're constantly battling neck pain you may be tired of going at it alone. Massages alone are often not enough to fix the problem. Ever wonder what causes this pain? Here are a few things we will review during your evaluation:

πŸ‘‡ Is core weakness contributing?
πŸ‘‡ What are your dominant postures during the day?
πŸ‘‡ What are you doing for exercise?
πŸ‘‡ Does your neck hurt after working out?
πŸ‘‡ Did your neck pain start after having a baby?
πŸ‘‡ How many pillows do you use at night?

✨ Hint: You're likely not "pulling" muscles even though it feels like it.
✨ Call us today to get to the bottom of your pain. Healing starts when you walk in the door!

Of the estimated 10 million Americans with osteoporosis, more than 80% are women.

Osteoporosis is a disease of the bones. It occurs when the body loses too much bone, makes too little bone, or both. As a result, bones become weak and may break from a fall or, in serious cases, from sneezing or minor bumps.

There is a direct correlation between physical loading and bone formation-walking is not enough! Studies have shown jumping rope and strength training to be much more effective than walking alone. Call your local pelvic PT to help you learn the best exercise for your body!

This video shows you how your hip positioning can change your pelvic inlet and outlet; watch that pink tape.

Changing your hip position can help with delivery! The 1st position shows hip external rotation which decreases the pelvic outlet, but increases the pelvic inlet. This is better for stage 1 of labor to help the baby settle into the pelvis.

The 2nd position shows hip internal rotation which opens the pelvic outlet. This is good for stage 2 of labor to help get baby out!

Myth or fact: You need a strong pelvic floor to push your baby out.

MYTH: Your pelvic floor muscles need to be able to fully relax and stretch in order to deliver your baby. Your uterus and abdominal muscles contract to push the baby out and your pelvic floor muscles need to essentially move out of the way.

Here's a quick video demonstration on how people think you push a baby out vs how the pelvic floor needs to relax and descend in order to allow the uterus to push the baby out:

The first clip demonstrates the incorrect way of pushing by squeezing your pelvic floor muscles. When the pelvic floor muscles are contracted this closes the opening of the vaginal canal and does not allow for optimal delivery. The second clip shows how to push out your baby correctly by using your transverse abdominals to increase abdominal pressure and descend your pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor muscles need to relax and get out of the way so your uterus can do its job!

Are you pregnant and feeling pain in your p***c bone when turning over in bed? Or when getting in and out of the car? πŸ‘‡

This pain is common during pregnancy but you do not have to live with it! Keeping your legs parallel to each other and contracting your adductor muscles (inner thighs) will help to stabilize the p***c symphysis and decrease the pulling pain βœ”

When moving in bed, use a pillow between your legs and squeeze your inner thighs. When entering and exiting a car, use a plastic bag to rotate easily, sliding both legs over while together!

Are you struggling with frequent trips to the bathroom to pee?πŸ’§

The cause could be a tight pelvic floor. On average, 4-7 trips to the bathroom in 24 hours or 1 urination per 3/4 waking hours is normal for the average individual. Urinating more than 1 time per hour is bothersome and can disrupt your daily routine!

If this is an issue you struggle with, you could benefit from a pelvic floor PT evaluation.
