Today 7 of our members took the Shore Responder class. They learned how to set up a diver’s gear properly, rope techniques, how to document scenes and other information to aid in a successful dive operation. We would like to thank Terry Trueblood, Commander of Effingham Dive Team, for coming over and teaching the class.

Today Rescue conducted dive/extrication training. First, we searched a pond for a vehicle. Once we found the vehicle we did a mock rescue of a mannequin that was in the vehicle. We did site sketches and measurments of the scene. We then pulled the vehicle from the pond. Once on land, we switched to extrication training. Thanks to Shane Langley for the use of his pond. Our dive team conducted training this morning at the lake at Oblong Park. We went through basic rope techniques. Then our divers practiced maze anchor training which includes divers entering the water from the boat and working patterns around the maze anchor. This also gave our dive tenders a chance to do their work from the boat rather than the shoreline. Team members who maneuvered the boat also got a little practice on the sonar.
We are very thankful to the Village of Oblong for allowing us to train at the park.

Please stay off the ice. Ponds and lakes are not frozen enough to ice fish. This is just two of several drownings in this area in the last week. With temperatures above freezing the ice is getting thinner.

Indiana conservation officers are investigating two fatal ice incidents that happened Saturday in Greene County.

Crawford County Rescue Squad trained on Ice Surface Rescue today. Training was to learn techniques for rescuing someone who has fallen through ice. Squad divers also got a chance to experience being under the ice. We conduct these trainings to better serve the residents of our county. Thanks to Shane Langley for allowing us the use of your property.
