The Purple Heart, established August 7th, 1782, is a symbol of courage, dedication, and the deep cost of freedom. Let us use tomorrow to reflect on the courage of these heroes and thank the Purple Heart recipients for their service and sacrifices.

A special thanks to our team of nurses who care so big in ensuring our patients are treated just as they wish their own loved ones would be treated. According to a study completed by the NPHCO in 2022, 5.4% of patients receiving Hospice Care are admitted under a diagnosis of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, with another 1.3% under a diagnosis of respiratory failure. Oftentimes, our intake team is met with "I wish I would have known about all of this help sooner," or "I wish I would have qualified sooner." Below, we will lay out the Medicare guidelines for those who would qualify to receive this FREE form of in-home healthcare under a respiratory diagnosis. As always, if you feel that you or a loved one need help sooner, please do not hesitate to reach out. Consultations/Evaluations are always free and or no obligation.

1 and 2 should be present:
1. Severe chronic lung disease as documented by both a and b:
a. Shortness of breath at rest, resulting in decreased functional capacity (ability to perform the daily tasks of caring for oneself independently).
b. Progression of pulmonary disease, as evidenced by increasing visits to the emergency department or hospitalizations for pulmonary infections and/or respiratory failure or increasing visits to physician.

2. Hypoxemia (low oxygen concentration in the blood) while at rest on room air and not utilizing any form of supplemental oxygen, as evidenced by oxygen saturation ≤88%.

Documentation of 3, 4, and 5, will lend in supporting documentation.):
3. Right heart failure (RHF) secondary to pulmonary disease.
4. Unintentional progressive weight loss of greater than 10% of body weight over the preceding six months.
5. Resting tachycardia >100/min.
