This is a profound statement that applies to far too many in the helping professions. It’s so much easier to encourage our clients to take care of themselves compared to actually walking the walk ourselves. Just a friendly reminder for all of us to take care of ourselves so that we can really show up for our clients.

Meaning can be found anywhere, even in the most obscure of places. This is because true ‘meaning’ of something is idiosyncratic. What means a lot to something may not mean much to someone else. This is the precise reason that it’s up to you to find that meaning because it has to truly matter to you. It’s not couldn’t simply searching for it. It’s found by searching within yourself, and that’s when the true meaning of things begins to just slowly come to you. Value and sentiment should never have to be searched for, true meaning comes naturally, if you allow it to.

It’s not attention seeking when you’re seeking attention for something important, and mental health is ALWAYS important. It needs to be open, raw, vulnerable, and authentic to the person. This is how true healing begins.

People pleasing can be easy in the moment, but it’s also dangerous and makes it easy to lose sight of yourself. ‘Fawn’ing is actually a fourth type of threat response that’s been adapted from trauma research, so the next time you catch yourself trying to please everyone, ask yourself “why?”

Given the rise of CPTSD, I found this post to be very important to share. What most parents consider to be “little comments” are not little comments to their children. Their children aren’t being sensitive because they react to negativity like this, they are behaving normally and learning from their environment, it’s the parents who aren’t. These “little comments” make lasting impacts on children, but fortunately, the brain is very malleable; it’s never too late to work through these things.

This is such a powerful statement. By identifying the fact that our emotions and thoughts are something that WE feel and experience, we can objectively view them as being a part of us, but not the entirety of who we are as individuals. Your mental health problems don’t define you, only you have the permission to define yourself.

Thought this might be a nice reminder to share before the weekend. We all get in our own heads sometimes, and we all feel like our emotions are invalid on occasion, but they aren’t. Your feelings are always real if you choose to allow them to be, but the choice is always yours.

The human brain is a powerful organism, but it can sometimes betray us. Our instinctive drives from the origins of humanity are the most deep-seated in our brains, which makes it hard for us to distinguish things like anxiety from genuine danger or depression from real sadness. Even the strongest minds struggle with this, but as it says, there is always hope. Please reach out.

Relying on yourself is the largest bond of trust you can make. Self-reliance can be scary if you feel like you’re on a tight rope with no safety net, but reaching out for support can often be a reminder that you are enough, just as you are; it’s simply a matter of honing your abilities so that you, too, can “fly”
