Important information
Know your rights when flying with your wheelchair! Did you know that with the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA), you have the right to remain on the plane until your wheelchair is brought to the plane door upon arrival?
Cory always stays in the plane seat until his power chair is at the plane door. Sometimes the airline gets a bit pushy and wants him to get into the aisle chair and then transfer into an airport wheelchair until his customized wheelchair shows up at baggage claim, but he always reminds them of the ACAA.
Also, airlines must also provide an onboard wheelchair for passengers who need assistance to move within the cabin to the lavatory or their seat. If you're waiting on a loaner wheelchair or your own wheelchair is delayed or mishandled, the airline is required to provide safe, adequate seating accommodations while you wait. If your rights are violated, you can ask to speak with a Complaint Resolution Official (CRO) or file a complaint with the Department of Transportation.
