We’re starting off August strong with a trip to the canal. Several of our clients who have suffered a stroke got the chance to kayak for the first time, thanks to the adaptive boats available at the Erie Canal Boat Company.

A special shout out to Rochester Accessible Adventures for their help today and providing volunteers to help our people navigate the canal. Their smiles say it all 😁 🚣🏻‍♀️

May is Stroke Awareness Month! Each year, nearly 800,000 people suffer a stroke. That’s 1 every 40 seconds! So, how does this impact you?

1. Know your risk factors-
🔸high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, a-fib, diabetes, and obesity can increase your risk of stroke.

2. Identify signs and symptoms of a stroke in yourself and others-
🔸Facial dropping and asymmetries, arm weakness, slurred speech, vision changes, sudden changes in balance/dizziness, and/or sudden onset of severe headache = TIME TO CALL 911

3. Quickly identify symptoms and get help!
🔸Stroke treatments that work best are available only if the stroke is identified and diagnosed within 3 hours of symptom onset. Time = brain cells!
