After a nationwide search, alumna, preceptor and educator E. Katherine Valcin '18N (MS) '20N (DNP) has been named UR Medicine's chief nursing executive and chief nursing officer of Strong Memorial Hospital. đź‘Ź She will also serve as assistant dean of clinical practice at the School of Nursing, continuing to bridge clinical care and education. Our NICU at Golisano Children's Hospital became part of a special story this year—literally! While the Cole family spent 10.5 months with their newborn in the NICU, they created a children’s book—written by grandma and illustrated by mom.

This heartfelt project, inspired by real-life events, is the first in a planned series and a testament to love and resilience. The family donated two copies of their book to our Family Resource Library, where it will inspire and comfort others. We’re thrilled to share that this brave NICU graduate went home just before Thanksgiving—taking with him a story written with love. 💖

The Pediatric Practice at Golisano Children’s Hospital is the largest pediatric primary care practice in the greater Rochester area, as well as the largest site for interdisciplinary primary care teaching / training in the region. The Pediatric Practice is certified as a Primary Care Medical Home and is designated as a “safety net” practice within the UR system (i.e., all are welcome, none is denied care).
