The past 4 years my sister and I have chosen words for the year to set a vibe/intention for the year as a whole rather than specific resolutions. I usually set some goals around the word as well. Last year we made bracelets with our words and wearing it most days was a visual reminder of my goals and intentions for the year. 2025 (Steadfast)was about holding the course with good habits and goals and getting comfortable with all the changes the past few years had brought to my life. 2026 js about growth and challenging myself. Feeling ready to take some new steps and get a little uncomfortable in the pursuit of new things and growth so “Reach” is my word this year. Do you have a word for 2026? Spent last week in nature with the family. It was nice to go back to Colorado and take my daughter on her first hikes. I want to show her taking time for self care is just as important as “working hard at work worth doing”. I’m not always the best at modeling the self care I speak to every patient about at their visits but I’m working on it!

Almost a year ago I wanted to get back to a person that felt more like me after stress of the pandemic, extreme work burnout, happy but stressful life changes like having a baby and opening my own medical practice. I started going to a small weightlifting group of women on Saturdays and then would take 1 hour to myself after to enjoy a book and coffee. At first it felt like I wasn’t doing enough but I told myself this was my bare minimum a week for exercise. Almost a year later I now do other things for fitness and health that I slowly adding to this once a week habit. This is what I preach/coach with my patients…..small almost “too easy”, “it’s not enough” habits that stack over time and build confidence and trust with yourself that you keep your promises. Saturday morning weight lifting and coffee/book time is still my favorite part of my week and ends/starts each week recharging my body and mind. Small habit building from a place of self love not shame! What could be different in your life and health with making 1 small change/goal that feels “too easy” that you do consistently no matter what?
