Another Path is a death doula organization devoted to providing compassionate care throughout the dying process.

By cultivating a non-judgemental, safe place to process death and dying, we ensure no one needs to approach death alone.

🏳️‍⚧️ Happy Trans Day of Visibility 🏳️‍⚧️

To my trans loves - I see you. I don't travel your path, but I see you. Your joy, your fear, your rage. Your whole human existence. You are loved. You are treasured beings on this earth. Even if all you can feel right now is the hate, these things are still true.

My life has been enriched so much by trans friends, educators, and colleagues. One of my first promises in entering this work was to always believe people when they tell me who they are. Through the dying process and death, the very least I can do is ensure the right name, the right pronouns, and the right presentation happen. This is a safe, affirming place for trans life to be honored after death. (said with the hopes that any trans folks I get to doula for will die of old age usually granted cis folks - but I also see the world we live in)

Trans is Beautiful.
Trans is Valid.
Trans is one part of a whole human.

Beginning is the hardest part.

Whether that is something as mundane and forgettable as the first post for a new social account, as profound as the first step towards fulfilling a purpose, or that first heart-rending request for help - the first step is the hardest.

I'm on my way back to Rochester after a week in the desert at 's Death Doula Training Retreat. The retreat was beautiful and intense and life-opening. We learned from Alua, her staff, and the 34 other humans who are ready to meet the dying where they are without flinching. It was practical and magical and radically accepting. And on this journey home, the universe has seen fit to remind me that I'm just getting started.

I'm currently sitting here in the Delta lounge waiting for my (delayed) last leg, wondering who I will meet next. Today, I have already been seated next to two unrelated strangers traveling to say goodbyes. I have the privilege of two new stories to add to my thoughts over the coming weeks, and I hope I was able to offer some comfort and support. I think I did. I hope.
