Kamden made an unexpected entrance into the world via emergency C-section in 2018 at just 24 weeks, weighing a mere 1 pound, shortly after his mother was diagnosed with HELLP Syndrome. Despite grim predictions, this courageous little fighter faced numerous challenges during his 8-month stay in the NICU, overcoming obstacles such as failure to thrive, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), retinopathy, and feeding difficulties.

Upon returning home, he was equipped with additional support to help him thrive, and now, five years later, Kamden continues to triumph over the challenges of being born a micropreemie. His family describes him as a joyful little guy with a passion for music (thanks to the Music Therapy team!) who loves Sonic the Hedgehog. They credit his remarkable progress to the exceptional care he received and continues to receive at GCH.

Kamden’s journey is a powerful testament to resilience and serves as an inspiration to families facing similar challenges. 💚💪 !

"I've stayed here so long because I feel safe here and supported by my coworkers."

Sandra Joyce, RN has been a bedside nurse for 45 years and started at Strong in 1987. She says that SMH DNA is in her blood, which she learned when she had to move away for a brief time and truly missed Strong and her team there.

"I really appreciate that mistakes are looked upon as a way to improve the system instead of "punishing" the person who made it."

Sandra is passionate about caring for others and teaching the next generation of nurses before her retirement this December! She's an inspiration to nurses and her career is a testament to the dedication, tenacity, and compassion of our nursing teams.

Our amazing care teams brought the festive costumes and candy to our patients spending Halloween in the hospital. Our very own superheroes dressed as superheroes, among other festive get-ups for cancer patients in Wilmot and our kiddos in Golisano -- where they handed out candy from room-to-room -- and everywhere in between.

LaTwuan, who has spent every day of his life in the Golisano Children's Hospital NICU, recently celebrated his first birthday! What a journey it’s been, and celebrating the special day with a Josh Allen card is fitting for this little Bills fan. Here’s to many more joyful moments ahead. He is doing great and we congratulate him and his family on an important milestone.

Our care teams were feeling the Halloween spirit at Golisano Children's Hospital this month. One of our favorite Halloween traditions returned when Spirit of Halloween stopped by the play deck to provide costumes and crafting activities for our kiddos. We are grateful for their continued support and helping to make memories and bring smiles to our brave kiddos! 🎃

Always grateful and proud that our teams go the extra mile! 💗

Team members from our Labor & Delivery unit work together to provide a Pregnancy Loss Support Service to help families going through pregnancy and infant loss in their time of extreme grief.

With extra help from many community donors, our team organizes a variety of ways to help parents during this time, including items to remember their infant, self-care bags, local support resources, and more.

Congratulations to Golisano Children's Hospital which has been recognized as one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals in three specialty areas in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospital rankings.

The 2024-2025 rankings placed our Neonatology and Nephrology programs, and Pediatric & Adolescent Behavioral Health in the top 50 nationally. This is the second year in a row that the Nephrology and Neonatology divisions have been ranked, and the first year that US News & World Report has published rankings for Pediatric & Adolescent Behavioral Health.

Faculty and support staff from Neonatology and Nephrology are pictured here. The Pediatric & Adolescent Behavioral Health Cateogry recognizes the achievements of three divisions: the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, led by Dr. Michael Scharf; the Division of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics, led by Dr. Dennis Kuo; and the Division of Adolescent Medicine, led by Dr. Susan Yussman.

Congrats to our Neonatology and Nephrology divisions for achieving another milestone, and to the combined effort of multiple divisions to be recognized for Pediatric & Adolescent Behavioral Health ranking in the inaugural ranking year!

At just 18, Rylie Hoad was diagnosed with a rare pediatric cancer after what seemed like mere sports injuries. A visit to the ER turned her world upside down, revealing a tumor on her spine. Since then, Rylie has undergone a remarkable journey, battling through 14 rounds of chemotherapy and nearly 50 radiation sessions.

Yet, amidst all this, Rylie has found her voice as an advocate for young patients. Rylie's unwavering positivity, humor, and the love of her support system have become her greatest allies. She reminds us all that while she may be 19, the fight against cancer is a universal one that deserves attention. Golisano Children's Hospital
