TAPSS Program

The Teenage Parent Support Services Program at The Society for the Protection and Care of Children offers counseling and case management to teen and young parents, both mothers and fathers within Monroe County, New York. We serve youth from age 12 up until their 22 birthday. The typical length of service is approx 1 year - 18 months, however depending on the need, we have flexibility to work with the family for longer. TAPSS is at Home visiting/ community based program, meaning that we can meet with participants in their homes, or other community location as most convenient for the participant. TAPSS is able to help the young parent and their child with basic needs, such as housing, clothes and food. We also help them to reach their education and employment goals. We also offer significant parenting support to the young parents to navigate the often challenging and overwhelming transition into parenthood. We also offer counseling to the young parents to address Mental Health struggles and and the impact of trauma that many of them have faced. All of the services offered are individualized to each participants needs and goals. Here in the TAPSS program we think that a strong relationship between the Family Counselor and participant is key to offering effective and meaningful services. It is important that the participant can rely on and trust their family coordinator to be their for them in times of both crisis and celebration.
