All of Rome Monument's showrooms will be closed December 24th - January 2nd. Have a blessed Christmas and holiday season.
As our radio commercials have conveyed to be aware of cemeteries (cemetery salespeople) "bundling" products/services at an inflated cost and then offering what a consumer perceives as a discount "good deal", we have a new tactic that has been brought to our attention.
Two families have recently conveyed to us that in their bundled contracts a $500.00 line item was placed in their contract for a product/service that they intended to seek elsewhere. The cemetery salesperson made it seem that this $500.00 was standard practice and that they would address it in the future and it could be changed.....well that is not the case.
These families have asked us to get the word out in the hopes that others will not be put in this situation in the future.
Please spread the word to your family members and friends. Even if the cemetery salesperson/representative is someone you know, it is best to do your homework and have someone else not connected with the cemetery review the contract.
Please note that the above is not indicative of the majority of cemeteries.

Pictures are worth a thousand words and these pictures depict that a memorial is artwork and that different sculptors in our industry have various degrees of skill. The below unfortunate experience of a Michigan family was brought to our attention last night.
In July, this family saw the memorial we created for the Floro family and wanted a different shaped memorial but the same sculpted Madonna of the Streets. We quoted a few different options for the family and they ultimately selected a different vendor. Below is the sad e-mail we received last night (the family's name has been blocked out on the memorial):
"I emailed back and forth with you last July regarding a memorial. Ultimately decided to go with a different vendor, but now I'm having an issue that I was wondering if you could help me with. The stone I ordered from my vendor is being made in Georgia. I received pictures of it recently (attached PDF) and while most of the stone looks good, the quality of the custom relief I requested is unacceptable. I was wondering if the stone could be shipped to you guys and you could see if your artists could "rescue" the relief. "

What do you know about Sleepy Hollow Cemetery?
Officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery probably credits most of its notoriety from Washington Irving's famous story: "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," set at the nearby Old Dutch Church Of Sleepy Hollow. The burial ground was originally named Tarrytown Cemetery when it opened in 1849, and then was renamed Sleepy Hollow Cemetery as a request posthumously granted to Irving.
The Sleepy Hollow Cemetery stretches over 90 acres, and is the final resting place of many early-20th century famous names, including the Carnegies and Rockefellers, Walter Chrysler, and of course, Washington Irving.
Today, it is a popular tourist destination and sees a large spike in visits during Halloween for haunted hayrides, cemetery tours, and more.

Have you ever seen Andrew Carnegie's memorial in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery?

Considering the substantial wealth of the Carnegie estate in the early 20th century, you may be surprised to know that Andrew Carnegie's headstone is a relatively simple Celtic cross design - a style that is growing in popularity today - with a short epitaph of him and his wife. In front of the cross is a slightly raised bevel headstone depicting where Andrew and Louise are located.

As a reminder of how seriously we take the "custom monument design company" handle, we want to share a project for a family from 2011.
Lynne and Anthony Calabro shared a hobby of photography. They also shared a workplace- and she was the photo lab manager of the pharmacy Lynne and Anthony owned together. When Rome Monument was asked for a custom monument of a camera, the perfect symbol of their legacy, we were lent Anthony's camera - seen here - and went to work.
Out of a solid block of jet black granite, our craftsmen hand carved and polished this masterpiece to perfectly memorialize the love for one another and passion for photography the Calabros shared. Our team, and the family, were completely satisfied with the result.
