This month, our Dementia Care Navigator, Sarah, hosted a wonderful Creating Memories Coffee Hour at Marian’s House Memory Program. The event gave families and caregivers the opportunity to connect, network, and get to know Sarah in a meaningful way. Residents spent time creating scrapbooks alongside their loved ones, and many families shared how special it was to slow down and truly connect with one another. Moments like these are what community is all about.

Jewish Home hosted a press conference on Friday for LeadingAge New York, joining with residents, family members, local nursing home leaders, and dedicated state lawmakers to highlight the chronic underfunding of nursing homes — and the urgent need for New York state to make a meaningful investment in long-term care.

Watch the 10NBC news story here:

We extend appreciation to Assemblymember Harry Bronson, Assemblywoman Sarah Clark - AD 136, Assemblyman Josh Jensen, Assemblymember Jen Lunsford, Senator Samra Brouk, and Senator Jeremy Cooney — and to all the Assemblymembers and Senators who stand with us to support and champion stronger funding for high-quality nursing home care in New York state. We urge that the 2026-27 prioritize the funding of long-term care.

Jewish Home celebrated Sweetheart’s Day all week with a delicious traveling dessert cart for residents. On Friday, the Resident Council sponsored its annual Sweetheart Day Flower & Chocolate Sale, bringing even more fun, offering flowers, cards, balloons, and even guitar grams—live songs performed by music therapist, Emma. All proceeds from the sale go to the Resident Council Fund to help support future resident events and activities.

Hillel School students made beautiful cards for Jewish Home residents, which were distributed during Tu Bishvat programs last week on each floor. The cards provided a wonderful opportunity to discuss the holiday’s theme of caring for the world and “planting seeds” of kindness and love from one generation to another — as the sign in our lobby reads, quoting from the Talmud, “Just as my ancestors planted for me, it is my turn to plant for the next generation."

An additional blessing was receiving a gift of blankets for our residents from Temple Beth El, made on Mitzvah Day. Thank you, Hillel School and Temple Beth El!

Today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honor the memory of the six million Jews and millions of others who were killed in the Holocaust. We honor the strength of survivors, reflect on the lessons of history, and reaffirm our commitment to opposing antisemitism and hatred in all forms.

Thank you, Governor Kathy Hochul, for proposing to invest in nursing home Medicaid rates — to help providers keep pace with rising costs and offer competitive wages. Please ensure the final includes this important funding, as Medicaid funding directly impacts provider ability to attract quality staff who care for our older adults.
