The hospital is home to a number of centers of excellence including the Lipson Cancer Institute and the Sands-Constellation Heart Institute. Rochester General is a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence™ by the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers program from the National Consortium of Breast Centers, Inc.; a New York State-designated Stroke Center and a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Update as of 1:40pm:

Earlier today, Rochester General Hospital (RGH) experienced a security incident that was quickly identified and contained. Hospital security personnel acted immediately and safely detained an individual with a handgun. The Rochester Police Department responded promptly, secured the scene and is leading the ongoing investigation.

At no point were any shots fired, and there are no injuries. At this time, there is no active threat to patients, visitors, or staff.

The safety and well-being of our patients, employees, and community remain our top priority. Care and operations at the hospital continue as normal.

We understand that situations like this can be concerning, and we appreciate the cooperation and support of our team members, patients and community.

Rochester Regional Health is currently conducting an internal investigation and working closely with law enforcement to learn more details about what happened. We will share additional information as appropriate.

Last week, we celebrated our incredible physicians with good food, great company, and a well-deserved break. From hors d'oeuvres and desserts to raffles and gifts, it was our way of saying thank you to the doctors who work tirelessly to advance health, side by side with our teams and our community. 🤝

Amanda Coniglio, MD, Cardiologist at our Sands‑Constellation Heart Institute joined a panel of experts on Evan Dawson’s “Connections” this week to talk about the risks that too often go undiscussed - especially for women.

Dr. Coniglio emphasized the importance of:

❤️ Knowing your numbers (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar)

🧬 Understanding your family history - and considering genetic testing when appropriate

🤰 Recognizing the unique cardiac risks during pregnancy and postpartum

👀 Paying attention to subtle symptoms that may not feel like a classic heart attack, but still signal something isn’t right

We had a great turnout at today’s Well-being Expo! 🎉

More than 25 wellness vendors joined us in the LeChase Lobby with interactive booths, tips and tools for self-care, free stretches with StretchLab, samples from our Food Service team, giveaways, and a fun Passport challenge with prizes.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, explored the stations, grabbed some swag, and invested a little time in their well-being. And a big shoutout to our Well-being Committee for putting on such an great event!

🏆 We’re proud to congratulate our Nurse Residency Program for their recent Accreditation with Distinction from the ANCC - American Nurses Credentialing Center - the highest national recognition for practice transition programs - underscoring our commitment to exceptional mentorship, education, and support for new nurses.

🩺 Also this week, we welcomed nursing students to our Clinical Kick-Offs at RGH, where they connected with recruitment and unit leaders to explore specialties, ask questions, and discover the paths that inspire them as they begin their careers.

Such an inspiring day of learning and connection at our 3rd Annual Doula Education Day at RGH! 🤝🌟

Our "Down and Out of 2nd Stage Labor" event covered everything from physiology deep dives to hands-on movement labs, exploring every aspect of supporting families through second stage.

This day reminded us how much we grow by learning together. Our educators, midwives, physicians, nurses, and doulas each brought invaluable experience and perspective - creating a truly collaborative space where clinical best practices met community wisdom.

To every doula, provider, and partner who joined us: thank you for your openness, curiosity, and commitment to elevating birth experiences in our community.

Kudos to our RGH Safety & Security team for their participation in the Rochester Polar Plunge for the first time, raising money to support the Special Olympics. 🩵❄️

We see these team members show up every day to keep our people and patients safe. This weekend, they showed up for our community, too, and proved (again) they will do the hard things for a good cause, even when the hard thing is… freezing.
